A few months back a bunch of local guys with 12v's with easy smoke were riding around blowing smoke and the cops were pulling them over telling them to put stacks on etc... . pretty much quit doing it but there wasnt anything they could do without a city ordinence. Well time goes by and tonight a buddy of mine called me and said he got pulled over for smoke. He has a 95 with the same upgrades i have (even has stacks and the truck has a leveling kit w/33's) so it has a little haze just normal driving. Well, this cop pulls him over for this small haze and says get it fixed or next time he'll ticket him. My buddy said he was trying to be polite and said he would understand if he made the highway dissapear but he was driving normal and still got pulled over for it. So there may be alot of 12v's for sale around here including mine. This sucks!!! :(

This might be a good time to look up what the vehicle code and local ordances say. Most states have an opacity test for diesels. Some have a time limit on the smoke, something like 10 seconds or so of heavy smoke to get a ticket.

I got pulled over in a similar situtation acouple years back on a Sunday when the oil seals went out in the turbo. Poured white smoke everywhere when I was idling (killed mosquitoes pretty good tho). Cop told me to get it fixed or he would ticket me for something to do with polution or what not, I asked him how I was to do that on a Sunday afternoon when everything is closed.

I haven't been stopped for blowing black smoke YET. Knock on wood.

thanks for the ideas. I'll have to check into that. The last i knew there wasnt any laws on them but i guess they passed some sometime lately.

I always like things like this. These guys go around SMOKING things up and the Cops and City fathers get tired of it and past some Laws to get it stopped and THEY CRY FOUL? So now everbody that has a haze coming out their tail pipe will pay.

Exactly, He is a good buddy of mine, but him and all the other guys thought it was the greatest when they were painting the town black until now, not so much fun now.

I think blowing smoke and having fun has its time and place, but smoking without discretion doesn't reflect favorably on diesel power enthusiasts or diesel power in general. If I was that cop I'd be pulling them over too.

Tell the cops to stick it where the sun don't shine...

An attitude like that will definately get that kind of response from the cops, but you won't like where they stick it  That's a loosing approach in the long run.

I wish we could tell them to stick it, but it is a losing battle. Its hard to beat the law. Its your word against their's. I'm just gonna watch what i'm doing and try to drive as easy as i can through town.

Gonna be in Marin County any time soon? This and your comment about the lazy blacks in NO show a lot about you - none of it good.
