I will start

I use a mulching lawn mower and no fertilizer. Every time I fertilized in the past it resulted in having to mow the lawn twice a week. Looks just fine with no fertilizer.

I'm not sure of the brand but I use a 27-6-13 fertilizer w/sulfer and iron. It also has a slow release nitrogen componet that gives it a steady growth rate instead of a huge spurt and then petering out after a few weeks. This stuff is avaliable at your local farmers chemical supply company usually. Not only is this the stuff that most Lawn care places use but it is also more affordable at around $7. 50 for a 50lb bag. hope this helps a little. :)

Go to your local extension agent and get a soil sample kit. Take some soil samples and send them in. They will tell you what the soil needs, like lime or iron for instance. If the soil is in good shape it will not need anything but water like Bill's lawn, if the soil is in bad shape the best fertilizer in the world may not help much.

I've hear it said the Irish make *fine* fertilizer.
