I have a 99 3500 auto with the lazy wait to start light. Tryed cleaning all connectors and replaced 2 of my bat cabels and got a reman ecm from ace. still have the same problem any suggestions on what else to look for? Thanks F Crowder

When you say, "Lazy," how long before the light turns off? A truck profile would be helpful for some of the Gurus' to help solve your problem.

Sorry. It"s a 99 QC 3500 auto. 140000 mi,edge juice,ats3000 turbo,edge stg2 inj,banks high ram,aem intake,5" ext,ats convertor & valve body. the wait to start light takes around 5 to 25 seconds to come on and then the truck will start. Thanks Francis

Me too

I've recently been having the same symptoms with my truck. It happened probably a year ago or so (when my truck was pretty much stock) and has recently shown up again. I turn on the key all the lights on the dash come on like normal, and then about 5-10 seconds later the fuel pump comes on & the wait to start light comes on. A lot of times I would jump in my truck, turn the key to the "run" position, buckle my seatbelt, and by that time the wait to start light would have gone off and it would start immediately. Now, when I do this, the truck will turn over several times like it wants to start but wont. I can release and the fuel pump runs and the wait to start light comes on and finally it will start. I've just been blaming it on the computer having trouble thinking. More of an annoyance really.

This may not be helpful but the wait to start light stays on longer as the ambient temperatures get lower. I'm sure you know this but just in case it will not turn off until the grid heaters do.

Re-explanation

Bob, actually what we're describing is when you first turn the key to the "run" position, normally the wait to start light comes on immediately, stays on for a few seconds depending on the ambient temperature. At the same time the wait to start light comes on, the fuel pump will run for about 3-4 seconds which is what Im guessing is pressurizing the system up to the VP44.

In my case (and the OP I believe) when you first turn the key to the "run" position, all of the lights on the dash light up, just like normal, except for the wait to start light. The wait to start light and the fuel pump prime happen anywhere from 5-10 seconds after the key goes to the "run" position. I first suspected something in the switch, but with all of the dashlights coming on and even the radio in the truck coming on, I suspect a computer malfunction.

Does that clarify a bit?

Thanks

Craig

I understand now I had my brain confused. :confused: I think I got it right now what is happening. :-laf Problem I don't have any help, drat!!! :{

I spent saturday under the hood. Took the reman ecm off because it's either bad or not the prob. While there unpluged all sensors & connectors & ohmmed all sensors & wires between connectors. I also used a voltmeter and checked to see if when you turn on the key it had power immedeitaly at the computer. the only thing i found was connector 136 in the service manual one of the two on the firewall right above the intake was a little dirty. I cleaned it with electrical contact cleaner & a little wire brush . still no change.

I lost the wait light & 3 sec prime... . winter was comming 2 years ago..... a reflash fixed it at a dealer. Now I know you had a ecm swaped out so we can rull it out. The tech first looked at the air temp sensor with the DRB & the temp reading changed from morning to afternoon, not my problen but may be yours?.

I sent the reman back to ace. He called me back and said nothing was wrong with it. when i told him what it was doing he said that when they repaired these ecm's that the only way that they could fix it would create a lazy wait to start light. They gave me a full refund because that was my origanal problem and could not fix it. I'm going to em bob and see if he has one.

I chased one of these ghosts for several months doing the exact thing. It seems to be an intermitent bad connection, 12v power. Not always at the same place however. I don't remember which fuse, but one in the pdc was the culprit the last time for me.

Just love these problems. NOT REALLY.

Just an update. Found somebody here in PC fla that had a 98. 5 same as my 99. His truck keep's showing code 1989 no com between ecm and vp. we swaped ecm's and my wait to start light prob went away so now i know it's the ecm. Tried to call Bob last week but he was at sema will try later this week. other guy's truck still set's code 1989 so i guess he's going to need a vp. showed him all the post's about blue chip look's like thats what he's going to get. now i'm going to start pulling my dash. heater core is leaking. have a new oem core and evap core coming. will put it in during this week.
