Clinton vs. Titanic

You fellows got to remember ever one of you were new at this once. Some have been here longer than others. Theres probably a lot of you that have never owned a Dodge until now. If something else comes out thats better I will look at it. But its my decision to drive what I do,use the oil I do,etc, etc. Theres no stupid question or something thats been asked before. Thats how you learn. Ain't everybody as smart as some of you claim to be. Don't you think its repetitive stuff when somebody takes their truck back to the dealer for whatever? If somebody asks something that you don't like click and your out of it. Ain't nobody here that their time is so da** valuable or you got so much to do. Remember you probably ask some of these questions before your self. Ever body don't have the same kind of learning curve.

Hey Bushwacker!

YOU, my friend, are one of the top resources on this site for the 1st gens and I would like to say thank you (and I'm sure I speak for many other members here) for always taking the time to respond to questions. Its great to have someone answer the questions even if some of them are repeat. We all had to learn someplace and you are helping the new comers to gain the knowledge needed to enjoy these trucks.

while on the subject

I recently let my inner voices get the best of me. I went on a rampage and said some things best left alone. for which I resigned my position as a Moderator. the past few days I have reflected on what all of this means to me and how much knowledge and savings we ALL gain from here. I too have become bored. I think that is what it all boiled down to. That’s what caused my vision to be blurred. I have pulled my hair out trying to think of ways to get interest back into this site. I know there are a lot of folks that are in the same ship as I am (bored). I just cant think of what to do. now I have alienated myself with a few GOOD people. And am sick with myself because of it.

I will still surf but am trying to refrain from posting, I think that is part of the whole problem here. once a guy makes an ass of himself people don’t let it go. they steer away from posts with that person in them and that causes animosity. The next thing you know there are lines drawn and sides taken. this is the case with a lot of our membership. The camaraderie has been lost. The heavy hitters have a bad taste in their mouths and just keep them closed. Been there done is what comes to mind. transmission wars, oil wars, ****** with the management. It doesn’t matter. Take the little disclaimer a certain member insists on putting in every post. After a guy reads that a few times they put that member on a list. (you know what list I’m talking about) next thing you know, we all have a list of people we feel begrudged to. Once they take a stand on something for the other team your team goes out to sick them. That’s nonsense. But I fell for it, didn’t I? Evil thrives on anger and fear.

We all need to stop, pull ourselves up by the ears and look at what we are doing. We are using our kitchen for a bathroom. After you start that, you soon won’t want to eat out of the bathroom so you continue to mess in it. let’s ALL of us try to drop the chips. There are many bridges now across that big muddy that splits our great country in half. Let’s use them. Not blockade them. There are all kinds of ideas and opinions out there. that is what makes our Country so great.

What I would like to propose is this; first, reach out and say hi to someone you had on your “S” list. I’ll bet you would be surprised by them, if you just got to know them. Second, help out the new membership, take pride in what YOU have learned and SHARE it. these, up and coming people are learning. and will some day teach us something if we help them.

Me first; To those I have offended -- I’m sorry – REALLY, you will be hearing from me soon :D

Steve, Please leave this up for a while. it’s in a members only forum and I think a few GOOD people should see it.

ToddT

You never offended me, but you have my respect. It takes some huevos to admit a mistake and apologize for it. You set a fine example for everyone.

I just wanted to say that I think that this is a great site. There is a ton of info here. I am a new member and I'm also new to diesel trucks. I think the repetitive posts are a good thing in a way. Because it lets us newbies read some of the stuff, that the veteran members thinks is repetitive, that some of us would not even know what question to ask. Sometimes I get in a post that I have read about the subject many times. No big deal I just hit the back button. I hope someday that I will have the information to help the newbies, like so many of you guys have helped me already. Just thought I would throw in my . 02.

Thanks

Eric

You dont hit a child for doing something wrong, you hit him if he keeps doing it after being told to stop.

People shouldnt be afraid to post questions for fear of being stomped on, sometimes they just want to fit in. A post (sticky) outlining how to use the search engine would be helpful but not 100%. Most new members will read for while until they have a question and then, get brave and actually post. I see nothing wrong with it. Recently a new member saw that I had a fuel pressure gauge in my cab, he wanted to know where I got it, how much it cost, etc. I exchanged several emails over the pressure, I actually had to go take pictures of how and where I hooked it up. The pictures are in my album because it is not the first time a new CTD has asked me how to do something simple. I probably spent one hour total fooling with the issue.

I think the biggest problem we have is frivilous posts and sarcasim and degrading answers to people. I for one have been guilty and am improving my responses. There is a thread re: *oil that I tried to delete as soon as I realized it was not going where I wanted and people were getting PO'd.

We should never become sooooo experienced that we cant take to the time to answer a question for the 900th time to someone who is asking for the FIRST time (to them).

It was an allegory not parental advice. Besides, my dad would wallop me when I deserved it and it taught me a important lesson, break the rules and it hurts. I'm glad for every butt lashing I got, I deserved them all and am better for it.

Wonder if this is off topic ;)

THERE ARE NO DUMB QUESTIONS, ONLY DUMB ANSWERS.

I have my first diesel and have asked a ton of questions with nothing short of informative reply. If a member is "sirly" or even as far as arrogent it must be remembered it is due to his shortcomings not the one with the question.

We have seen many members go from a wet air filter to a "BHAF" after marathon threads about how fantastic the wet filter was. No one, to my knowledge, ridiculed their action... there were too many. Point being we are all learning something and will continue to do so if we keep emotions at bay and go forth with experience/info.

Now, I will be posting all about this bucket of elast-vibration reducing stuff that I will be gobbing on the sheet metal in question in an attempt to reduce noise. This stuff is just under 70 bucks for a five gallon pail and has "high numbers" regarding noise reduction, coverage is 200+ sq. feet. It is chemical and solvent resistant and about the consistancy of wallboard mud. I was considering those pads but this stuff will get into all areas and dries in 4 hours max. In a way I look forward to removing the seats and carpet to get to all the "big flat metal".

In closing, NEVER stray from the site if you get offended as you are just as good as anybody here. Enjoy lifes journey and never even consider if a destination exists. Yes, I have been attacked by the oil guys, the political "geniuses", and others... who cares. It was posted earlier in this thread that opinions are like rsoles. Thats a fact!

Well said,you are so right.

What gauges do I need... ... ... ... ... ... . ;) ;)

Think back to what was your first question here... ..... if it wasn't for you guys I would prolly have a Banks system on my truck:rolleyes: I love you men... ... ... ... :p :D

Pass it along boys. that's what it's all about..... that's pretty self serving though 'cause I ain't no where near done asking:D :)

What I like about this site is that there is always someone else with a fresh perspective. 2 months ago my KDP came out and blew through the top of my gear housing. Needless to say I was intimedated on doing the tappets cause I didn't want to drop one in the pan when one of the rubber bands or sticks broke. Then someone piped up and said that as long as I had the injector pump off, pull the tappet cover and use 3/8" hose clamps on the top of the tappets to keep them from falling. As far as I know, from all the people I've talked to, this way is new.

There is only so much that can go wrong with this truck. It's how you approach the fixes that keep it interesting.

Exactly how I feel. I am far from an experienced veteran on this site. I am now having transmission trouble. I WILL post questions I have and I WILL read the transmission threads from doing a search. If guys want to answer them, fine. If not then I have better things to do than get upset over it. If the fixes that are out there now are the best there is, then I guess there is no reason to continue reading any post that has been covered before. Take the BHAF for example. There isnt anyone here that can say that if they read one of those posts again, that they wont learn just a little more than they did the first time. If you have everything fixed that there is to fix on your truck, maybe its time to buy a new one and start over. ;) :D LOL

Edit: I have always read the posts that cause a little "controversy" but never have posted to them, I felt my opinion was better kept to myself. Treading new ground here so be gentle with me:eek:

Its great that this thread turned direction 180deg from the way it started. It just shows how many positive minded people are part of TDR.
