I have a 2001 with the h. o. 5 speed manual transmission. 70k miles

The clutch started slipping some this summer when towing a light load.

Last weekend I pulled the transmission and found two interesting things.

First, the pilot bearing was shot, even though I did not notice any thing while shifting, etc.

Second, there was synthetic transmission lubricant on the floor of the bellhousing. Apparently it was getting by the seal. This oil was causing the clutch to slip.

The engines rear main seal was dry.

I am replacing the clutch, pp, throwout and pilot and replacing the seal.

Has anyone else had this happen... . seal leakage from transmission?

Any secrets for repairing this in addition to what the manual says?

Dave
