Ok, I installed the hose tonight and all went well. I decided to take some photos for others down the road so they can make their own assumptions of what is involved. I will post the photos tomorrow.

Here is some of the photos of the hose replacement. If I knew how to attach the photos as a work template I would post more of the photos.

You guys are the best. Especially, Mike Wilson and Ron Bellah. I feel quite confident that I can handle this job. Once again, the members have proven my membership dues are a great investment. I was able to obtain the required Cummins Part Numbers (thanks Mike) from a local Kenworth Dealer in Mt. Clemens MI, for $21. 58 including next day freight charges. In case anyone else in SE Michigan needs these parts, try Eastern Michigan Kenworth of Clinton Twp.

I plan on tackling this job over the coming weekend. I will provide feedback for others who may need to do this job.

Thanks for the direction on this repair. I must say that this is not the most miserable vehicle repair I have made but it ranks in the top five. I agree that this is the most unrewarding and ungratifying task I have done thus far on my '06 CTD. Let's all hope for better designs from Cummins and Mopar in the future.

Thanks again, Chuck

My '06 was leaking at this hose also. It looked like something major with coolant leaking down the back of the engine. I tightened up the clamps as best I could and the leak stopped for now. When the warmenr weather gets here, I change it out. I plan to do a complete flush and refill with fresh antifreeze and thermostat at the same time.

Great, that price sounds a lot more in line. Gotta' wonder about those Dodge stealerships sometimes.
I learned for Engine parts check with Cummins or Geno's FIRST. Dodge marks thing up drastically. This is off the subject but, I was trouble shooting a fuel issue and narrowed it down to a sensor or a valve. Dodge wanted $600 for the valve and $500 for the sensor. I got a new Cummins Fuel rail that came with the sensor and valve from Geno's for $300.

I was tired of trying to tighten the original clamps and tired of the leak. So after having the new hose and clamps for a couple years, I decided to tackle the replacement yesterday. WOW, this is a major PIA. I have loosened up the hard pipes as shown above, removed the intake to the turbo and the inner fender well. So far, after two days, I have (besides scraped up and cut hands) the old hose removed and the new one sort of in place. I still need to get it slid up around the other pipe. Unbelievable how tight it is to get you hand in that area. I do have an exhaust brake and a EGT thermocouple coming out of the exhaust manifold to work around. I read elsewhere about removing the Alternator to give more movement on the top hard pipe. I am really trying to avoid that....

Update..... After another couple tries - success!

Looks they also did the same 'wrong clamps' on the engine side by the oil filter as well. the one that is hard to get to with the oil filter installed. Used a long 8MM wrench to tighten the top clamp from the bottom of the truck. Now I know why it was leaking...

mwilson...

On that drawing of yours, is #2 another NPT plug? and is that located in the back of the cylinder head?

I just checked, that is a 3/4" pipe plug and it is in the rear of the cylinder head.

I can post the graphics without issue but any attempt at the parts listing other than a screen shot just comes out as gibberish. That's why I don't add it to the drawings.

I'd like to figure out a way.

Mike.
