I picked up a 99 V-10 auto, and planning a swap of the 91Cummins into it.

The 91 is a 2wd auto, it will be parted out, and cut up.

Anyone have any idea what kind of trouble I'm heading for, getting the TPS and other electronic components to work properly?

Thanks, Gene

If I am not mistaken it is against federal law to attempt that swap. You would have to do a 99 24v swap in there with all of the federally mandated emissions equipment. You will also have to swap the title to a "Diesel". If nobody checks I guess you would be ok.

I don't know how strict they will be when look at your truck as their is a nameplate that has the year of the block and stuff on it. Pa. was so happy about their 55mph limit a few years back, and failing vehicles with to much rust on them I would research the swap.

I would hate to see all that work go into the swap. Now it would be completely legal to put the V-10 into the older vehicle with the catalytic converters on it. I guess it would be possible to do if you never have to go to inspection. But if you had to sell it you would have to change the title. J. M. H. O.

I am not concerned with the feds, how could they argue doubling the mileage of a vehicle? LOL

Besides, after what I did to my 97, that was enough for $$$$in fines and years in jail, no doubt.

I don't know about the laws in your state but in California, I was told by the Bureau of automotive repair that all I have to do is do the Gas to Diesel swap then take it to a referee to have it inspected to make sure that there is truly a Diesel engine in there and Viola!!! Smog exempt for life. With all the crap we deal with in this state I find that refreshing.

absolutely... ... get it in there pronto, then you will be grandfathered in later. But remember to keep all your receipts and photograph the install with the "date stamp" on. That way you can prove the work was done when you say. Just incase you have to defend yourself. You may want to overnight USPS a copy of your pics to yourself after the swap and not open it after you receive it. That way you will have a official government agency dating your information.

cover yourself... .....

i am in the process of doing about the same thing, 89 i2 valve into 96 v10 4x4, so far i haven't had any real problems except having to modify the cross member and get 94+ mounts, is all is going together fairly easy. except for having to use the 727 because i have no computer or sensors on the 89 engine

I'm trying to fighure out a way to make the new trans work.

This is kind of funny:

"Re: Finally have the chance to Rebuild my Ram2500 8L/V10 Rig

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just rebuilt mine. I haven't had a chance to get to the chassis dyno yet,but probably will within a month. here is what I did.

Crower cam dur 262/270 lift 528/549--need stronger springs

Crower roller rockers--also need longer push rods

head ported and polished

bored 30 thousands

flat top pistons/ 360 pistons modified-not sure what compression ratio ended up at, but I'm sure it's better that the stock 8. 4:1

I already had everything done on the out side--headers, custom flashed computer, throttle body, complete exaust, etc.

I also have nitrous on this truck.

By the way, my brother has a cummins - modified - no way I can even stay close, power or fuel mileage. His truck is awsome - power wise!!

It ain't cheap.

Good Luck "

Poor V10 guys!!!! :-laf
