Hello all,

I have know had my truck for 7 weeks and it has 3500 miles on it.

Any way, on June 12th I will be leaving (from Kansas City) hauling my Jeep to Moab UT. The Jeep on the trailer and all of my gear comes it at about 6000lbs. I have an 02, 2500, quad cab, long bed, HO 6spd, 4x4, with 3. 54 gears. It is bone stock except for the Rhino liner. I was wondering if it should get the EGT guage in before I go heading up the mountains in CO. When I do the guages I will get the Westach EGT/Boost and electric fuel pressure guage and put them on the A-pilar (I think that is where I will put them). Sorry I get to rambling when it comes to my truck, I love this thing. So again should I be ok being stock on the EGT? Thanks for every one's help, this is a great place.

Glad you like yer truck, they're great ain't they! You should be just fine, those rhino liners don't cause that much of an increase in EGT's. :-laf :-laf Have fun on yer trip!

If you have the time

If you have the time and money, I would install the gauges. You will have a really good opportunity to see and record the baseline performance figures for your truck in stock condition under towing circumstances.

Kool ; some friends and I are leaving for Moab/So. Utah June 15th. We are bringing ATV"s. Wish I could bring my 46A but cant drag all the toys. I pulled my 8k TT for a year before I got gauges and when i did the EGT was never over 1000 Post turbo. Just dont lug it. have fun!!

Thank you all for you help. I don't really have the money to do the gauges now but I could if I really needed to. What I don't have is time. I own a small construction company and I need to work when there is work and right know I am swamped. Also my Jeep is not put together either so I work on it after the sun goes down and can't work on the job. I am telling myself I will just not push the truck hard in the mountains but who am I kidding. I am thinking I might do the EGT and put in the the hole to the right of the raido and do the fuel pressure and pillar mount later.

Thanks again to you all.

Towing without gauges

Scott, I don't think you NEED gauges for this trip you describe. The most important thing to remember is to not lug the engine down.

The reason is this: the cummins will make enough torque and horsepower with full throttle at say 1800 rpm to climb a certain grade with a certain load. The problem is that you are dumping large [for a stock engine] quantities of fuel in the slow revving engine to get the torque and horsepower needed. At low rpms there is not enough air going through the engine to burn the fuel well, [extra air keeps the combustion temperatures down] and the result is a very hot EGT.

What you need to do is just downshift and pull say 2400 rpm at the same road speed. Doing this will drop your egts by hundreds of degrees. This will keep your engine healthy.

Have a safe trip! Greg L
