I am posting for another member with a 2002 HO 6spd 4X4. A couple of times the left rear caliper has gotten hot and smokes while driving. he replaced the pads and says that the caliper pistons retract easily. Anything else to look for?

did you ever find out what your brake problem was i've ot one that started out that way now all are doing it just going down the road

I called Jim and he checked his emergency brake cables. Apparently someone had adjusted the left cable to tighten the emg brake. The cable that hooks to the emg pedal goes all the way to the right emg drum brake. The left connects along the drivers side frame rail. The IDIOD that adjusted the cable to bring the pedal up didn't know what he is doing. I told Jim to back off the cable and to adjust the emg brake at the wheels.

Your problem sounds like the master cylinder piston might not be returning all the way to open the relief port in the master cyl.
