just got off the phone with south bend. they recommended 1947con ofe. asked about dual disk but they said it was to much. i already have full metallic clutch, been in a month, already slips. big piece of junk. its under warrenty so it will be going back. need some in put on dual disk set up. truck already has the "shutter" at take off and the rattle in nuetral. none of this bothers me. how do yall feel about duals and every day driving and which set up would be best. the price for the 1947 is 907. about a 100 more than the one i am returning. duals are closer to 1700. is the price worth it. thanks for the advice.

Other than the gear clash rattle at idle there is really no downside to a dual disk (okay... price, too!). My Haisley dual is butter smooth, has a firm yet non-leg-killing pedal, and holds gobs of power. I have abused mine for about 9 months now with nary a whimper of complaint. Daily driving and towing are no worse or harder than with the stock clutch.

John,

Did you keep your stock hydraulics with the Haisley? Did you get the street or street puller? Do you notice any more gear noise than with the stock clutch? I'm trying to decide between a Con FE or Haisley Street dual. South bend recomended a Con OFE to me as well. I don't think it would stand up to the torque I plan on delivering to it.

FWIW - I have the MU13. 125 CON-OFE that was installed at TST products...

I am starting to think he put a CON-FE in, because at 911#'s torq, I CANNOT slip this clutch on the street. But i have not towed with it at that level, So maybe thats why I can't slip it

So far I am happy with it

Briman - What torq are you planning on?

Tomeygun, I'd be proud to have your numbers. I know that all trucks behave a little differently to all upgrades. I have heard of some trucks holding 520 hp with a Con OFE and others that slip with less. It more than likely is not the clutch itself, but part of the clutch mechanics that is causing the clutches to slip at lower ratings. I just don't want to find myself part of that lower equation. My stock clutch has slipped very easaly and I want no part of that with a new one.

Regarding the Haisley, I like the idea of organic in a dual disk.

I hear ya... If the dual disk was in the budget, I think thats what I would have in my truck - Kinda like twins, the DD systems seem to be the ultimate for good manners, yet big-time holding power (At least that what makes sense in my head, :D )

I've had good luck with the OFE also. 470hp and 1180tq on a back breaking load dyno. Pretty impressive to me.

Briman,

Yes, I'm still on the stock hydraulics, but I have been thinking of upgrading just for peace of mind. I haven't had a hint of a problem, though, and I think the dual shifts as fast as a stocker. I'm running the street drag which is an upgraded street twin and is well worth the extra cost. The street pullers are very very smooth, but they'll screech every time engaged because of the iron discs. You get the gear clash at idle (stopped by revving even 100 rpms or pushing in the clutch) and a little more noise at lower RPMS (1600 and lower) in the higher gears... especially 5th. It's not real loud though, and if you have an exhaust system you probably won't even hear it going down the road. It will sound like a 2nd gen at idle :) A buddy of mine with a ~550 hp 2002 is running the FE and he's getting ready to put in a Haisley dual. His is slipping at WOT and chatters quite a bit upon takeoff, so IMO 500+ pretty much requires a dual.

I have a SBC 3600 DD with 6 pucks...

It clatters, but the noise is my least complaint. It honestly doesn't bother me. One of my friends said he would sacrifice power over having to listen to the noise though. He WOULD NEVER sacrifice power... his truck is an auto.

I think my biggest complaint is the hopping chatter coming off idle and the HEAVY pedal... it's just not that smooth without putting a lot of power to it.

It holds my 500+ HP though... so I guess I can't complain.

I installed a Haisley DD street puller about 4 weeks ago. It is AWESOME!!! It is extremely smooth for a high HP clutch. It does rattle in neutral and also has the same noises as Banshee mentioned. It is not loud enough to bother me at all. This thing holds everything I throw at it, inlcuding 3000+rpm 3rd gear launches. It does screetch a bit when the clutch engages, but I think it sounds cool. IMO you can't go wrong with a Haisley DD!

I did upgrade the hydraulics and it was pretty easy. If anyone is interested in a drawing of waht needs to be done when upgrading, either e-mail or PM me your e-mail address and I will send it to you. It is a very easy upgrade!

I have got a southbend dd it is a mild 10 puck. I drive every day in rush hour traffic in Denver. It is a great clutch. I have gone through two OFE's sliped them both. I would just get it over with and get the DD. If you get enough power the 3rd and 4th gear launches are great. You can even smoke those auto's

The only downside to a DD is the lack of spring damping. If you pull hard in the wrong RPM range (about 1800 for the 12 valves) it will beat the hell out of your transmission. I have read some threads about dual mass flywheels and what they are meant to address and IMO going springless is going in the opposite direction. Everything is a compromise of some sort or we would all be driving the exact same trucks.
