Lift pump inlet fitting

Ok,here goes... . Working on a '90 CTD. The lift pump needed to be replaced,because someone at another shop tried to put a standard hose barb in the inlet side of the lift pump. Apparently they didn't realize the inlet has metric threads,and they split the inlet threads open when they forced the hose barb in. We got a new pump from Auto Zone,but having trouble sourcing the inlet fitting. Now about the trip to the local dealer... Part's discontinued,but there's one on the shelf in Montana... . Here's where things get strange... She says are you gonna go pick it up??We say can't ya get it sent here??She shrugs her shoulders,and mutters something under her breath. We said screw this,and left. Does anyone have access to the cummins part number for this fitting?

Is there a hydraulic shop nearby? Place that makes hoses? They should have a fitting. Or, try a NAPA, get an adapter from metric to pipe thread, then use a barb fitting.

Hydraulic shop didn't have one,but could order one. Problem is they had to order a box of them to get one. No luck @ NAPA either.

The stock lift pump inlet (suction) fitting on my 91. 5 is standard male pipe thread, I don't recall if it is 3/8 or 1/4, I think 3/8. Now, the outlet (pressure side), is 12mm x 1. 5. I sourced both fittings from Vulcan Performance, but Jeggs would also have it. Any good racing performance shop might have it, these are on some carburetors too. You may want to double check that inlet fitting and make sure it is not standard pipe thread, especially if you are going to order one. That last shop may have torqued it down too tight. You should be able to buy the fitting thru McMaster-Carr online. They ship overnite as standard proceedure.

Bert, I was wrong. I don't know what I was thinking, but Bill G. straightened me out. It's pipe thread, as Chris said. The reason the inlet was split was most likely the knothead who installed it over tightened it and split the housing.

Thanks for the replies. I completely forgot about Mc Master Carr. I've dealt with them before on oddball items. Anyway... If it wasn't pipe thread before... . It is NOW. We ran a tap into it,and so far it works great with no leaks.
