Hi guys, I'm new to this column but my friend at work bought a 94 auto 4x4 w/64k on the clock and won't start cold for 25-30 seconds. Says it's better when it's warmed up. Do these things have lift pumps? It's all stock and bought it off the original owner. Thanks

There are a few things that can cause this. The most probable cause is that it's loosing prime so it takes a while to overcome that. There are a couple of rubber hoses, supply and return, that connect the fuel tank to the engine. These start to leak, especially the return, after a while and have to be replaced. Big PITA of a job. Search the 12V formum and archive to find more than you ever wanted to know about how to do it. The other possibility is the overflow valve on the injector pump. Another search will find a lot about this critter too.

I'll second Joe seems like loosing prime.
Next time before he tries to start it have him push in/out the primer button about 30 times or until it hard to push in(or overflow valve makes noise).
This will give him a better idea if there is a leak or the overflow valve.
If the overflow valve is bad, pressure mite not build up when priming
Also could be leaking fuel filter(drain valve) or gasket(o-ring).
