AGE OLD DEBATE: COLD AIR INTAKE vs STOCK AIR BOX

Main bearing torque procedure

Anyone who says taking this motor out is full out shiat. There are so many little connections to disconnect on the driver's side. Talk about a pita.

Should I take the fuel filter off and the trans cooler off? It's such a pain to get up in there

Just disconnect the SAE Connections, they are there for a reason. No need to tear all an everything apart.

At the factory they need just a couple minutes to drop in the power plant and install it.
The transmission goes in together with the Engine there.

So you must disconnect the two cooler lines at the heat exchanger. And be careful, always use two wrench. Don't try just to loosen the lines nut, you'd destroy the heat exchanger.

By the way, the steel bar in the front of your Fan, body part.
You either have two cut it in half or spread apart the side "wings" to get it out of the way.
You dont want to lift the Engine over it.

Yup I learned that the hard way today. I got the top line off but the bottom line would not budge. I eventually got it but twisted the line up. Heat exchanger is fine though

I read that if you take the valve cover off and drop the oil pan after you lift it a few inches, it comes out fine. I'm not cutting anything

Better do a pressure test on the heat exchanger once out of the vehicle, water an oil. Because if it leaks you'll flood the transmission with water and you know what that means.

To do this you would have to tilt the unit at the same time while lifting, quite a challenge.
I would cut that bar and screw it together afterwards, makes the life easier.
But its up to you.

Best help i can give you - always ask yourself - how did the Guys assemble it at the factory?

It must be fast and easy, that's how they build it.
And often that's also the way to take it apart.

Last issue before it gets yanked. I got the trans unbolted from the bell housing but now I need to remove the torque converter bolts. I have the inspection plate removed but don't have a barring tool. I guess you can spin the harmonic balancer somehow? Tried with 15mm ratchet but the beast is not moving. Any recommendations on how to spin it?

You can also just pull the transmission and do the TC later when it's out.
Disassembling it that way is totally safe - but never try to assemble it so.

For the install you want to have the barring tool at hand. It's dirt cheap.

Boom she's out. Had to drop oil pan and remove harmonic balancer still a puzzle to get it out

Would I do that from underneath by the inspection plate cover? I look but didn't really see a spot to rotate it with a screw driver
Probably don't need this now but, I put the driver blade in a flywheel tooth and use the trans bell housing as a fulcrum point to turn the crank a little at a time then take another bite. It does go pretty well.

That's exactly what I did. Had the wife stand up top with a flashlight :)
