do first gen 2WD trucks bend lower control arms?

Ive had 2 different sets of springs in the front & the left front is allways lower

is there something else I should be looking at if not the controll arms or arm?

also does anyone know where I can get the bump stops that hit the lower controll arms to limit downward travel? I got some off of the internet but they were uppers

thanks folks

JAK

First gens by nature will lay down further on the left hand side. You have your fuel tank, your battery(s) and the driver on the left side. Before I upgraded my front suspension(4x4) mine you lean to the left with a full tank of fuel. I noticed some days walking out after work it was lower on the left, and other days it was not. Some days the fuel tank was full, some days not.

I can't help you on the 2wd front ends. Ive never owned one, or worked on one. I can remember that there is some heavier coils one can stick in the front of a first gen, to raise it up a little. Some searching will find them.

Moog 7226S. If you don't add the "S", you get the regular ones.

There is also a TSB for a shim for the drivers side to level it out.

The control arms can bend. I think Greenleaf has seen this.

thanks guys

I do have the severe duty springs

I dident really see any signs of bending in the controll arms

I think to index them properly you would need to pull them & if you pull them you might as well replace them

thanks again

There is no indexing on the lower control arms, all they do is hold the bottom of the spring and pivot for suspension. All adjustments are done on th eupper control arms.

Good luck FINDING new lower control arms. IIRC they are NS1.

Mysteryman claims they have a habit of bending but 300k and mine are still good as far as I can tell. Mine sits lower on the left also but the rear spring is the problem. A set of air bags with about 10 lbs of air in them levelled everything except the compressed body mounts.

I did lots of measuring and even had the frame checked for trueness. The suspension is good in the front and weak in the rear while the bodu mounts are really bad. 'Nother project for the summer. :)

thanks man

by indexing I meant to measure the 2 & compare them to each other

it may be the wrong term in this instance

engine blocks are indexed to check that the cylinders are strait to the main journals & such, lifter bores strait to the cam

have a great week & stay warm tomarrow is over the hump day

take care

Ahh, the confusion lifts. :) Thats a possibility if you can line them close enough.

JAK, were neighbors buddy. Give me a holler if you wander this way or want to compare notes. We should do a local get together this summer. Tugger is just north of us and there are a couple more in the area.

Cheers

yeah Im getting that
I was thinking about putting a strait axle on the front or maybe a front axle :) to make it 4X4 later

take care

The engine and transmission are also offset to the left on Cummins trucks, offset to the right on everything else Chrysler builds. That's the major factor in the truck leaning left. I've been trying to figure out how to mount the battery on the right side of mine to help the balance, but haven't done it yet. Getting room between the headlight and the air filter housing is marginal at best. A relocated air filter would allow the battery move.
