Competition The ultimate competition

Hooters

My wife and I stayed at a motel behind the Hooters and It was 32 or close to that a night. Had a kitchen in it also. When we were going out to eat my wife asked if I could get back, Yea it is behind Hooters. Right, should have known.

She took me there for a surprise a few months ago. I did not forget where it was. JImK

Ain't that the truth!! I had a 98 12v up the other day. After a lot of work by the owner, he did 38x/86x. It wasn't until Jeff did some tuning that we got 461/890 yesterday.

We did a 92 1st gen the other day with injectors Jeff built. Saw 306/698. I was most impressed.

I put my 2500 up on my dynojet and registered 430/1031. This after I registered 388/869 on a same model 248 DynoJet. I had added more fuel between these two runs do I think mine is valid. Check out the torque number that little HX35 is putting out. :D

I think we are close to having a SouthEast dyno day. ;)

Kris: Being broke is no reason NOT to attend a diesel event.

I bummed rides off the NETDR crowd to get to Thunder in Muncie... . and made it there for less than $10! (Beef jerky and those little black cans of Mountain Dew will keep a guy going for days!!) Heck, I even got to drive some pretty quick trucks on the way out there... . :D

I know how humbling a dyno can be. I was talking to a friend at work who is into racing his LS1 powered Camaro. Anyway, we got to talking about the dyno and trying to track down where the dynojet from Hogan's dyno shop in Tulsa will end up around Dallas area..... We got on the subject of dyno'ing and he mentioned something about how ODBII vehicles "learn" and will adjust performance according to how you drive. He said in all cases (at least with gassers) the first dyno run was lower and would ping and knock because ODBII did not have time to re-calibrate until the second run. Anyone know if this would also apply to our trucks since they are ODBII? It would seem to make sense to drive the truck very hard before the dyno to allow the computer to be calibrated "correctly. "

Matt... I was there. Where I spent all my money :{. Look at the first or second page, the pic of the blue dually with stacks is me.

And I had a lot of fun, other than the measley 382 hp  :D. Oh well, the ride in Mark's truck helped my spirits a whole lot :D.

I don't think OBDII would have the same effect on our trucks as it does with an LS1. My '98 LS1 would definitely suffer from the OBDII auto-learn crap, but it comes mostly in the form of alterations to injector pulse width and ignition timing... I used to be able to record timing differences of up to 7 degrees after resetting the ECM. Give it some time of easy driving again and the system would take the timing back down, and I would lose as much as 2-3 tenths at the track. The OBDII in those LS1's will even reset their learned characteristics after a fuel fillup of 5 gallons or more in case the last tank was bad. Those cars are always fastest right out of the gas station:D

There have been claims about this type of stuff. Do a search from about a year ago about "driving habits" or something like that, & your get a result from one thread. It was all about this. Don't know if I believe it, but who knows.

I have watched countless #s of LS1 cars dyno and have never heard any ping or knock on the first pull. It seems they repeat very well on the dyno. A freind of mines 02 345hp Camaro SS did 319 to the tires with a paper tag in the window still :D, not to shabby for a shebby.

FJ40, I am trying to get a hold of a friend of mine who just moved to Dallas, he is going to work part time for the guy that bought the Dyno so he will know the name and location of the shop and I will let you know :D

i noticed about a year ago the only place i ever heard excuses were at the track and at the dyno. the two places were your truck has to do the talking. not everyone can win, but don't make excuses. don't say the dyno was reading low, it read the same for everyone that day, instead say i've got some more work to do. :D this is not a dig at anyone, it's just something i've noticed with performance guys.

Well said Jim!

I am still wondering how I was able to beat another ETH with DD2's and a COMP by 5 HP at Diesel Thunder with my DD3's and the Puck. :D

oops... I just caught that. My post sounded kinda bad. Sorry, didn't intend for it to sound like that

He may look like a James Bond wannabe... but the really cool part about James Bond is that he has to chase off the ladies with a stick... . Gizmo doesn't have that problem. :-laf
