Load in the bed with stacks

Ok, I finally have a chance to get a set of stacks that I have wanted since the truck was new. Wife gave the ok, and money seems to be in place, but now, the sensible side of me keeps asking how I will be able to haul dirt bikes, firewood, and hay for the horses? Is there something that can be done to take the stacks out plug the hole, and turn the exhaust out to make the bed usable again? I realize that my tie down anchors are useless once you cut the hole in the bed, then cut out the pice of cross support, is there something that can be welded in to keep some strength there to tie down a dirt bike? I really want them 6" miter cut stacks, but I need and use the bed sometimes also. Firewood would no doubt crush the pipe, and the stack heat would scorch, or catch fire to the hay that I have to get about two times a month. any advise?

Choices, choices...

This is a tough choice: Stacks (no functional benifit, but look kool) or full use of your bed (functional, but not as kool).



I briefly went thru the thought process on my '02 dually: Stacks look koolest on duallys, but primary purpose of the dually is to pull our 17K lb 5th wheel. Besides smoke on the 5er, I wouldn't have been able to install tool box/aux fuel tank combo. I opted for fuction.



Now, you could buy a trailer or mount cargo hooks in the front floor of the bed.

i have a 6'' stack and a 24'' wide tool box in my truck and i can still use it still. w/ the hay it doesn't get hot enough to light the hay ive run many loads right up against it w/o problems and i run hot tho not near as hot as when im empty got to remeber w/ that load your not gonna be doing anything that really heats the exhaust. as for the fire wood i would just build a little sheet metal cover that would protect the pipe from being crushed and ull be alright. and get some bed tie downs that go on the sides or even in the stake pockets that will let you tie down the dirt bikes.



if you want tho you can buy a cutout box that will switch the exhaust to below like stock when you want and then it real simple to make the stacks easily removed its up to you but i would just leave them in and protect it from the wood. everything else will be just fine.



note w/ my stack the only time i can not just grad the stack is when its been up over 1000 deg for a period of time and even at that point its not hot enough to lite anything just really warms your hand.

I'm not familiar with the '02 dimensions, but on my 97, I was able to custom build my stacks similar to catoilers. Check out his pics. I routed the "Y" under the truck and brought only the stacks up. Bed is fully useable, tie down points are accessable. No problem loading wood or my three bikes.

the cutout box is a great idea, you can get them from truck body builders or tractor trailer dealers. you can switch the outles when you dont want to use the stacks. and completely block them off. I would then look into an aftermarket tiedown system
