He hauls loads like this:

So he up graded to this:

Then this, Lol

So that's why the 5500 and why he wants a bigger trailer with 12k axles and 5" brakes, plus he needs a little more length. His mini x and Kubota skid steer will just fit his 30' Big Tex. He ordered a track Kubota skid steer that is longer and heavier and don't think they will both fit. Plus he is always over the 22k gvw Big Tex.

Starting to look pretty good. I laid down two passes of gravel with the loader for the old brown truck. Then 20 yards of cinders with the dump trailer, it does a better job than I do with the loader. I am not a very good dirt person with equipment. If I trim one limb off the big tree on the left I can get one more pass of cinders.

He went ahead and moved on this 18' Tradesman, 5500, 4.44 gears with 25K miles. He said the trailer will have to wait a bit, lol

They will deliver it for no charge, they made the offer. 950 miles to Quemado, NM. where he will be working all next week. They said they will see him on Monday.
Did he check the idle hours and drive hours on the truck?

It's all supposed to be lifetime, and is non-resettable, Nick, but there is some kind of FCA fluke that casues it to spontaneously reset itself periodically. Another one of those "features".

Thanks Tom, so it don't mean nuth'in then, I wouldn't know what was normal or not. Do gassers have hours?

We don't now what it means but here are the numbers.

25,876 miles

207 Idle

696 Drive

Higher idle time. 23%.

Ideal is 10% or lower.

17% is considered severe duty by some engine manufacturers, and averages 10 min per hour.

Depending on what C&C trucks are used for they often have higher idle times, and are certified clean idle. It’s not anything to lose sleep over, Cummins has one of the cleaner idles.

Fair bit of idle time, I'd say. I am at just about 23K miles and have 18 idle hours, and the truck had 2 idle hours on it when I took delivery.

That’s an impressively low amount of idle time!

I try to keep mine low but still have 61 idle hours and just over 24,300 miles. With 640 drive hours that puts me at 8.7% idle. My higher idle time of year is quickly approaching thou, elk hunting. I don’t idle it to warm up, but don’t shut it down for most stops on the slow dirt roads

Not something I'd worry about. That's about the same ratio mine has. Living in a cold climate and being a supervisor/business owner truck causes it for me. There are many times I pull over in the winter to talk on the phone. Today, I put down almost two hours of idle time, all of which I was on the phone. At 36F I'm not sitting that long without heat. It gets worse as winter goes on.

My son stopped by yesterday and paid me for some cinder block deliveries that I did:)

He asked me to get him a thermostat for his new 5500 because I insist on Cummins. When I did a search for Rocky Mountain Cummins in Phoenix I couldn't find it. Finally found just "Cummins" in Avondale, there were several listings in the Phoenix area.

When I got to talking to the parts guy, come to find out he was in "central parts" in Colorado. He said all the Rocky mountain stores were bought out by Cummins. He didn't have a "parts book for '18 Ram 5500" so I gave him the number for the 190* stat:D

He is shipping it out of Utah.

The '91 got 12.24 mpg and the '01, 11.50.

I think my old truck is getting a second wind. I hauled three loads Friday and three yesterday and checked the mileage, 12.51. The manure is drier and I cut back to 9 buckets from 10. I am pretty sure I was overloading, now knowing what the trailer weighs empty.

I will check it again today, also it was super calm, no breeze at all. Diesel is $2.06 and regular is $1.87 at the Maverick in Holbrook, $2.27 here.

Diesel was $2.59 in Phoenix on Tuesday, $1.87 in Casa Grande. Since my aux tank was empty and the main tank low enough that I didn't think it would take me another 50 miles I stopped and bought $10 worth. I got a dirty look and a nasty comment when I asked for a receipt (pump was out of paper). The few miles off I10 I had to drive saved me $54.
