Tire Load Range Ratings

Taking a page out of the class 8 crew.
If money were no object I'd have one of everything Diamond C makes :) Good stuff there.

I agree, they make some fine trailers but they are really expensive and like all of them, cheap out in places. I don't care for the Diamond C tail gate. They use 2 hinges, one cam lock and the spreader chain is mounted too high on the door. They all use bailing wire chain. I know that is kind of petty because it is easy to replace it with some alloy chain, but if it is so easy, why don't they get it right.

Note the price of this one:

Anyone here ever use this outfit? I ordered a BX1 Bulldog coupler from them Sunday. They charged my card the same day, normally sales don't until the item ships. I have not heard a word since. They won't answer my e-mail and the phone just rings busy. I am getting a bad feeling.....

Finally give up on this outfit and reordered from E-Trailer. I filled out a dispute form with my bank, let them work on it. I dropped the hitch down 2.5" to level my trailer, I got a hunch it will tow better now. Both made in China, Lol

Well I am a dork:D Now I have two hitches. We just found the second one on the back porch, we don't use it, jeeze. I will just keep it and cancel my dispute form. I ordered it from PA, it is billed from Kansas and drop shipped from Nevada, so no wonder you can't communicate with them

I hauled a load today and stopped on a level spot, the hitch still needed some more drop so now I am in the bottom hole again, I do have 7.75" from the tail gate, should be okay. I had no clue I was that far off...with one eye it is hard to judge a short trailer:p The equalizer bar is real close to level now.

Well, if those dingbats had the courtesy to respond they could have traced it, and let you know it showed as delivered, right???

Hey Nick! I just cut down a little oak (14.6 ft circumference). If you want to run over and get a load with one of your nice trailers, I'll be glad to load it for you!

Nice!! So, about a 52" log, probably the butt. One 16' log would be a load and would take a pretty dang big loader to lift it. I have a 32"x42"x15' Pine long here that my Bobcat will lift but that is about it.

We hauled 2 loads of pine today and one load of chips, first time in ages. Talk about muddy! Took some pictures of Travis's Rams, he is a Ram Man, lol. Three 3500 cab/chassis, (two '12's and a '16) and one '16 Mega Dually pickup.

Measuring timber by circumference? What are you doing, looking for a spot on Axe Men?
Naw, jhenderson! I couldn't carry their Axe strap! Diameter is 53-54 inches just over 4 ft off the ground. "Flutes" added another 2 ft of diameter a foot or so from the ground. The heart was in surprisingly good shape. A good many limbs had gone bad and were dropping chunks, so I had my Husqvarna get up close and personal with it. I remember 65 years ago thinking what a big tree it was! First come, first served on the wood, though! Fuel up, Nick!

First come, first served on the wood, though

At that size it takes the casuals like me right out of the picture! I've got a couple of 12-16' lengths of Maple and Oak in the driveway right now about 32-36" in diameter. That's more than enough for me. They get to be a lot of work harvesting that size.

Delivered a load of Cinders today (8 yards) and sunk the left hand side of the trailer up to the axles. Needless to say I was stuck! So the homeowner cranks up his '48 Military style Power Wagon with no brakes and yards me out:D I forgot to take a picture but I might have something on my dash cam.

You’re fortunate to have resourceful customers.

Yes, I got lucky this time. He is a Mopar fan. '98 Dodge Cummins too. Then he has a new 30'x40' shop with an all original show quality '37 Dodge coupe, late 40's Dodge stake truck show room quality, 60's something Dart two door, he said they only made them one year and an old Bug. Shop was full, lol, no room to work on his vehicles or his equipment.

His whole place burned down during the Rodeo/Chediski Fire in '02. He and a friend drove his collection out to a bare field next to the main highway to save them.

Since this post has so many dump trailer pointers I'll ask for more. Looking at moving, will need a lot of gravel to increase parking area. Driveway is paved. Not sure how good of a job was done to know if a large dump truck would damage the pavement (cause ruts, etc). So, thinking of getting a bumper pull dump and slowly do my own work. I'd use the Kubota to remove top soil and go from there. If necessary I have a local farmer friend who I could "rent his kid and mini excavator" to do additional dirt work. (He doesn't loan equipment out - but I can't blame him and respect that).
Thinking of something in the 7x12 range.

So....
Is it worth an used dump trailer?
What to check for on a dump trailer?
How to tell if Hydraulics aren't worn out and will lift a full load?
Anything else you can think of....

I would jack it up to check how loose bearings are, crawl around looking for stress cracks, coupler/hitch wear, etc. Looking for dump trailer specific things to look at.

Thanks!
Dan

A 7x12 is a nice sized personal use dump in a 10-14k gvw. Do you need a three way gate or just barn doors? What might be the largest wheeled vehicle you might want to haul? Most dumps don't get much use unless it is/was commercial. It would take a long time to wear one out, no maintenance is another thing or abuse. Keep in mind gravel is really heavy, 3k lbs per yard, so how far will you need to haul it? 4 yards will max out a 14k gvw trailer. Bumper pull is more convenient and get around better v/s gooseneck.

Looks to me like you have a handle on what to look at as far as wear and tear. Economy models will be just that. Poor paint, inferior axles, lights, bed/frame strength, tail gate design/strength or no stake pockets. The scissor lift is generally stronger and faster than the twin cylinder type. However, it depends on size and placement under the bed.

Good to know - I was guessing on size.

Three way - would that be it can "drop down" like a tailgate, barn door, and pivot out at the bottom to slowly drop gravel as you drive? Just wanna make sure I'm understanding. If I'm understanding, three way would be nice, but I'm not sure if necessary.

None - I already have a 16' steel diamond plate floor 10K trailer for the tractor, cars, junk, etc. I built some sides for the state pockets to haul gravel, mulch, manure, etc. Tired of shoveling stuff out of it. I can remove the back gate and use the tractor to scoop stuff out from the back, but that is a pain too, since I can scoop all of it out.

Gooseneck is out since I have a cap on the truck. Didn't know the specs on the weight - good to know. I know it's heavy (at least my back tells me that) cause each year I need to get about 12 ton to fill in the current driveway where it washes out, etc.

Didn't know that - thanks!
