World's Biggest Diesel Engine?

I've got 3 weeks left b4 I go to Korea for a year. My truck really won't be driven daily like I currently do, maybe once a week. I figure the tank should stay topped-off to prevent condensation from forming. I have no clue about any fungicide usage to prevent nasties in the tank. I'm open to any suggestions except you using my truck while I'm gone, I just knew someone would offer :)

If it is still going to be driven once a week I would not worry about it at all. There are a ton of weekend princesses in the TDR membership;) You can buy a can of Diesel Doctor biocide, and put it in. Other than that I would change the oil and head for the far east.

Storage

OK, I admit I'm one those Weekend Princesses LSMITH referred to  ... . my truck sits dormant for anywhere from a week to 3 months at a time between uses. The only thing I do is use a strong dose of fuel additive (normally Power Service, but have also used Rotella DFA and MMM). I have never had any fuel system problems (3 year old truck), this includes having as much as 140 gallons of #2 on-board between the stock and Transfer Flow tanks. Now, the climate in the SW US is very dry compared to yours in GA, but I would think a once-a-week use in your case should be OK.

I would have SOMEONE YOU TRUSTED change the oil for you at the 6 month mark regardless of miles. Ditto to the above on fuel additive. Also, you might put some Nal-Cool in the cooling system. It helps to keep the coolant stable. Make sure that the Trustee of your truck DRIVES it and not just starts it and idles it for awhile. Also they get it up to temp when driving it. Good luck in Korea Chris

I have a 1967 Mercedes that I have not driven since 1988. It's been sitting since then with the same fuel in it. I start it once a year and let it run awhile. It starts right up and the fuel is still good.

So I would not worry about letting your truck set a few months.

I knew one of my TDR brothers would

Offer to babysit my truck while I was gone and Darren didn't dissapoint me. I thank all the responses. I smoked a 1500 GMC today going uphill, maybe that'll help Dad give the truck a workout more than once a week. If not I've got to install the KS HX40 b4 I go. Thanks Guys

I'll baby-sit

Al,

If it's going to be a bourdon on the old man, I’ll be happy to baby-sit the truck. You'll not have to worry about the lack of use; I’ll only put about 30K on it. :D
