I currently have a '09 Reg Cab 8' box Hemi that I use for my business vehicle. We install phone systems and equipment and need to carry ladders and materials and I have it equipped with a GemTop and Bedslide. Love the truck, except it does not have the torque my 2nd gen does. So it is constantly hunting from overdrive to 5th gear and then the "fuel saver" cylinder deactivation mode. I miss driving the diesel and am thinking of switching for a 6. 7 but have a few questions.

First, I thought I read somewhere that the Regular Cab 2500 does not use the Liquid Cab Mounts that the Crew and Mega use. Is this true?

Second, I average about 16 MPG with the current Hemi and was wondering if a 2500 with the 6. 7 would get at least the same?

Third, The thought of the EGR dumping the soot back into the 6. 7 and the DPF regen contaminating the oil really concern me. Have the issues been resolved with the new trucks?

Finally, I do not need to tow or haul much more then the 1500 can handle. Am I being foolish to trade up to a 6. 7 2500, other than I like driving the cummins, should I just stick with the Hemi 1500?

Sadly, if the hemi is really getting 16 mpg a 6. 7 won't do much better until it rolls up some miles.

I think the early 6. 7 smog issues are corrected but if you only use the truck as a slow speed, short trip grocery getter it may develop issues.

I understand your preference for the Cummins but it will be very costly to trade. Only you can decide if it is worth it to you.

HBarlow, that is kinda what I am thinking, but sure do like the way the new Outlander package looks with the gray bumpers and two tone paint. Do you know if the Reg Cab uses the liquid filled mounts as all the other cab designs?

No, I don't know but would guess the regular cab uses the same features. You can probably find out with a careful reading of the Ram pickup website. It offers lots of good detailed information.

Take the money that you would lose trading up to the 6. 7 and place into your current 2000 model Cummins. Mine has gotten as high as 19 WITH the mods and conservative interstate driving. Just a thought and no emmisions stuff to worry about!
