Looking for some help deciding on a truck cap

I'm looking for a cap for my 03 DRW Ram that has enough room in the left front corner to allow me to install a fuel filler for the Transfer Flow through it. Does anyone have a recommended model? The sleek models seem to have too small an area to allow the filler installation. I'm sure someone here has done this! Thanks in advance for your help. Ken Irwin

I've seen the Caravan's w/filler installed. Very clean application and sturdy shell. The shell is custom built to accomodate the filler neck. It's so well built that it will outlast the Dodge body.

I had a camper shell on my '01 Ram with the Transfer Flow tank and pass through fill neck installed. There was plenty of room forward of the long side window and the shell was plenty strong. Cutting the large opening to install the fill neck and shroud didn't harm it in any way. But, unfortunately, I can't remember the camper shell brand name now. It was one of the most commonly sold and familiar brands in the industry. If you do a search online under "truck camper shells" you'll find it. It you send me the name back I can confirm or deny it.



I'd give you my old shell but it won't fit an '03 or Gen III Dodge. It is still sitting at a friends storage yard.

Ken On my '01 I had a Leer wedge, I believe it has enough space to install a filler, but I just openend the window (that was pretty big), and put the hose through it to fill my auxillary tank.

I have a Dually Depot, 115 gal. auxillary tank in the bed of my truck with an ARE shell. ARE offers, as an option, Windoors. They are windows that lift open allowing access to the tank or whatever else you need to get to. I really like the Windoor. Use it all the time & find it very convenient. I have running boards that allow me to stick my head inside the bed area & look at the level of fuel in the tank, also.



I don't know if this matters to you, or not but, with the dark glass in the Windoor, no one knows that you have extra fuel, on board. With the high prices of fuel, not advertising the extra fuel might save you a visit from fuel thieves. Just a thought.

Kirwin, I have a Caravan shell and installed a fuel filler for the Transfer Flow through it. No matter what shell you use you may have to modify the inside filler pipe to make a clean install otherwise you end up with a kink in the fill line hose which will also place stress on your shell. At the time I bought my fill kit from Transfer flow they supply a unit that is meant to be mouned on a Camper with straight sides vs tappered (as most are) so the angle is wrong. I ended up going to a muffler shop and had them bend me a pipe to the correct angle.



I think I saw a kit at Northern that had the correct angle insert flange for a tappered shell not really sure if it was Northern its been years. Do you still have your genset mounted in the rear of your truck ? If so what will you do about cooling and exhaust?

Hey Bill. How's life up your way? I thought about this before I mounted it. It draws all its air from under the truck just like and RV instalation. The camper shell would only limit how hard it would be for me to climb up in there to service it. I'm still trying to decide IF I want to have a shell installed or not. My bed space is pretty tight when we are traveling, but I would like to keep eveything dry back there and out of sight when we are parked. I don't use the truck for general hauling hence the semi-permanetly installed generator. It works for me this way as the dually has a very warm dry nice spot in the garage unless we are traveling.
