I've been told this is the person look for. Help is appreciated.
If they've retired etc. someone with 3rd generation expertise would be much appreciated.

Thanks much.

He was here last week, he’ll be back.

@cerberusiam

Lots of 3rd gen expertise on this forum, what are you looking for help with?
Thank you for responding. I appreciate the help.

I've been having code problems with my 2006 Dodge Ram 2500.
I have another thread with the codes and work done. The mechanic advised me to go to a transmission shop as they thought it was the pump.
Other thread- Codes: P0483, P1757, & P0868 - Help or guidance appreciated | Turbo Diesel Register

The transmission shop guy is persistent that it needs an overhaul, even before he saw it. It's around 172,000 miles and I haven't had gear issues. No slips, nothing to give me worry on the transmission. The only time I had issues the governor sensor replacement seemed to fix it- truck wouldn't go over 20 mph one evening.
The shop called today and said that it went into limp mode for them, that the front band is completely gone and that they also re-replaced the governor sensor and solenoid as the new one from the other shop was bad without calling me to clear it.
I'm picking it up tomorrow and will see how it drives. I have another diagnostic appt next week with a different shop.

How likely is it that it is the transmission needing an overhaul with no prior warnings?
Is there anything from the codes above that would point to something else?
This truck just did close to 3000 miles home and back to work area recently without issue.
Prior to the transmission shop I've been driving it without issue.

Thanks again.

Just a very quick look at those codes online the 0483 has to do with the cooling fan, 0868 is low transmission pressure and the 1757 looks like it relates to the governor pressure, though a couple areas mentioned it may actually be more the wiring/connector to it than the actual governor.

As far as needing an overhaul it depends on what part went out and if it did collateral damage. I have had that happen. The 48 re that I think is in your truck was never known to be bullet proof by any stretch or even very strong. Many have failed and many have not.

How much debris was in the pan? my well used but not abused 48re made is 263K, could have gone further I had it built to handle more power.
ask for pictures or to be shown the front drum, you would be able to see the band and how it's worn into the drum.
however, it could verywell need a rebuild.
could also be an electrical issue.
Cerb îs likely the best when it comes to these, but also, it's hard to properly diagnose via the internet.

Thank you. I understand that the internet has limitations.
I don't know about the amount of debris, I can say that the note mentioned that there was some. I picked it up earlier today and the transmission shop owner mentioned that the front band is at its max adjustment and the lining of the band is gone. Pic and notes included.
Out of curiosity, is it possible to just have the band changed, and if so, is it worth it over an overhaul or a rebuilt transmission?

Thanks again.

They do make a slip in band. Hard to say if it's going to be a bandaid or not. an improperly adjusted band will burn up in short order.
I'm not a fan of auto zone parts.

what's the vehicle primarily used for?
I will say find a shop to actually rebuild the trans not just swap out one or try and sell you a jasper one.

lets wait for Cerb. he's like a god with these transmissions.

Thanks Barry. My last truck was younger and not a diesel. My family has had diesel before that lasted a good number of years and miles. Things just aren't the same anymore.

I have no issues waiting. I've got a rental in the meantime just in case.
The truck is a daily commuter. Most days maybe 30 miles a day. Random days with 120 or so miles, maybe 5 days a month. It depends on work and where I need to go to sometimes.

The transmission shop I picked up from does rebuilds. He quoted me $5,000 to rebuild mine, depending on parts needed and time. I know a guy in the area with older diesel trucks that has used him in the past. I don't have the tools or equipment to do it myself where I'm at currently. Thanks for the warning on the band, your right parts just aren't the same these days.
