Loose steering box fix

I installed my kit this morning, (the old style) in about 20 minutes and also installed a Strategy Controller from Em-Jay in a little over 2 hours, all I can say is wow, twice. My truck stays where I point it now and shifts like it should, and I could'nt be happier.

Oh yea I should add that I wwent for a 160 mile round trip ride just because I needed to.

I sent my check for $125 3/7/03 I was told in a email from Darrin that the shipping was COD since the cost of shipping varies based on where you live. I would just as soon have an old one since I already sent my money. Don't want to get an email telling me to send more money and then have to wait additional time. If anyone hears what is going to be done about the people that sent their money before the price increase please post.

Hi guys,



I'm just posting to let you know that anyone that already sent a check for the old price has been shipped a bracket already. No one has to send any extra money. We have enough old style left to cover the checks that come for the original price.



The price was raised slightly because the brackets have been redesigned and are also powder-coated. The shipping is still 22 US anywhere on the continent. Canada Post will not allow us to ship COD out of the country???



As of today, all 4wd orders for which we have received a check have been shipped. We probably will run out again soon though.



My apologies to the guys still waiting on 2wd brackets. The wait will be over soon!



We probably lost a few emails in the shuffle too.



I've posted a few pics of the new design to the original image hosting site mentioned at the beginning of this thread. The filenames begin with Newstyle...

700 mile run

Hello you folks. I just completed a 700 plus mile run to Canada (had some DTT upgrades done) side run to Anacortes and a trip to Carnation and home to Beaverton with Darin Tessler's steering bracelet in place. Wow! I could actually take my eyes off the road for a few seconds at a time and not wander into the next lane or off the road. At 70 or 80 on the freeway the truck drove straight and true. I am very pleased. I recommend this fix to anyone with the wandering problem. I'm just a please customer and not connected in any way to Darin. regards, Lynn Schwartz

Got an email from Darin, mine was shipped the other day. Original price, original stabilizer. Thanks Darin. Looking forward to this upgrade.

Anyone heard anything lately? I sent a MO on 3/6, he emailed me that he would confirm when he got the MO, no answer since, PM's not answered. Perhaps he is just busy but has anyone heard from him lately?

I sent in my check on Feb. 17th and received word (USPS notice) that my parcel (i. e. , steering control device) has arrived. I will pick it up after work tonight! ( ) It looks as though I may have to BOMB the bracket to clear other BOMBs... who knew? ( )



Then (assuming I have one of the earlier, non-powder coated units AND assuming I will have to modify it), I will have it powder coated...

Ya'll be patient.

He mailed mine on the 4th of March and it got here yesterday.

That's 22 days of post office/customs/border?added security checks.

I got the original older type bracket. The postage was $23 CD

No added fee requested.

Took me 1 hr and 20 mins to install, most of which was spent looking for the right tools (had to borrow a 250lbs torque wrench to tighten the new shaft nut to 185 ft lbs)

Will test drive it and put it through it's paces tomorrow...

Got a PM today, they shipped it on the 10th woohoo!! Cant wait to install it. They sound REALLY busy and this must be a sideline product for them, I'll be ordering another one for my 2wd as soon as the first one gets here.

pittman braclelet and stabilizer.

be patient, folks. it'll get there. i sent my check on 2/11. originally they shipped it on 2/25. darin said it got returned to them for some reason they never figured out. they reshipped it on 3/10, and i finally received it on 3/28. go figure.

installation goes easy. (mine was more difficult due to my dual front receivers and air horns, but it all fits).

1. have a floor jack to hold and reposition the stabilizer.

2. the pittman nut is 32 mm, but i think a 1 5/16" socket would work. the new bearing "axle/nut" is 1 1/4". and you will need a deep reach 1 1/4 socket for it.

3. the original bolts that hold the stabilizer are 15 mm, the bolts they send are 17 mm heads.

observations: great workmanship. good design. although i just had a new steering box put on under warranty, this helps the "wander".

I installed mine this weekend... just for fitment checks etc. before I removed it and BOMBed it! ( )



I deburred every edge, smoothed out the surface where the tubing was welded (inside... as far as possible, and out) and will be taking it in to the powder coat shop this afternoon. I will have it powder coated gloss black. As for the bearing assembly...



I stripped off the blue paint, and painted same with gloss black polyurethane.



BTW, the zerk they use on the bearing assembly is crap! It is made out of brass (instead of steel). I found mine was dented (from who knows what) and did NOT seal internally. Also, the zerk was NOT tight into its threaded bore... so, I would double check that.



Also, although I give the part (assembly) a high mark (in design and quality of construction), the packaging leaves a lot to be desired. For instance, packaging the nut (with integral precision bearing surface) loosely in a plastic bag with ALL OTHER installation hardware is just plain wrong! Nicks and dings in the precision surface could easily be avoided with a little extra care in packaging.

Took me less then 1 hour to install, and the majority of that time was finding the right tools (and I was alone, and didn't have anything to hold the stabilizer bar, which added to the time, but still not bad to do w/o a jack or anything). Most of the best tips have already been stated on here, as there really isn't anything to installing it.



I would have to agree on the grease zerk was bad on mine too... dinged from something, but unfortunately no fittings on hand, but I'll go get a new one tomorrow.



Seems to have cured about 70% of my steering wander, and mine was BAD!!! Got rid of about 90% of my bump steer when going over holes and stuff in the road.



Now to replace my bad ball joint, and we should be good to go again. This part really does bring your steering back to life and make it tight again.

Josh, are you saying on the install you don't need a jack just hand tools? I thought from looking at the first pictures that all you did was unbolt the stabilizer and bolt the thing on underneath the stabilizer? Is this a simple bolt on job or do you need jacks to align things? Just wondering since mine should be here in a few days

That's what I'm saying... it states in the directions to the bracket, as well as in a post above mine, that you should have something to hold the stabilizer bar in place, and then be able to lower it 3"-4" then slide the bracket in place and jack/lift it back up. While it would make the install easier, it's definitely not a necessary thing. I just dropped the bar all the way down, kinda put the bracket in line, climbed underneath the bar, used my legs to lift/hold the bar/bracket in place, and positioned it with my hands. Then I got one bolt on the pax side started and that held it all in place... . takes some wiggling and finesse to get the holes to lign up, but they all went in good.



It helped a lot, and I'm glad I got it. Definitely a job that only needs hand tools (I'm not even going to tell you guys that I didn't have a 200 ft-lb. torque wrench, so went with the German method of "Gutentite")
