Fair???
Rob, In this country, innocence is assumed until proof of guilt is provided. Fair to Evan would have been to not suspend priviledges until someone with the authority to do so had made a decision on due proof. It was obvious that the immediate response was to edit/remove the offending post. Suspension prior to a reasonable investigation of what went on is what starts the swirl of controversy.
Fair to the membership would have been to provide a reason why something was done, since allegedly we all like to see people held accountable for their actions. Further, a reasonable explaination resolves all the questions surrounding the action, reducing the uproar. I have to ask then, once something has been done(by management), what is the problem with a fair, truthful concise report of what happened and why? I also have to ask, if the moderators have to fall back on, "we're not sure whats going on, but we've taken action," have things been done in the proper order?
The issue of the hullabaloo surrounding such incidents could be addressed by not taking action UNTIL a decision had been reached. No action, no public situation, no uproar, no petitions, no wild-eyed accusations on lengthy threads.
This is not an employer/employee relationship, so there are differences, but I'll go with your example. You pay an employee for certain things to be done, and rules which are to be adhered. That relationship is private, and should not be discussed with others. However, do you suspend the employee and THEN call him in to talk? Do you make a pre-judgement THEN rescind it? DO you do anything to which the other employees can react prior to you talking with the employee in question?
Then, on top of it all, would you as an "employee" accept such treatment when you are paying to be part of a group?
Kat, my question to you was based on the assumption that you had acted on better info than was given to most of the TDR membership. As such, I knew you had a better chance of making an informed decision on the GP issue. If the membership were given the same benefit, perhaps many of the "scandals" could be avoided.
Ok, EMD, time to roll yer eyes again.
