I have been experiencing an intermittent loss of power-assist in my 01 2500's brakes. I suspect it is a worn out hydro-boost pump because it usually happens as I'm idling to a stop. It feels as though the brake system is in an ABS event and in the worst scenarios I really need to stomp on the brake pedal. The thing I'm curious about is could a failed wheel speed ABS sensor cause the lack of power-assist brakes? My ABS and brake warning light occasionally come on but I haven't noticed any relation between that and when the brakes act up. Could temperature affect the problem? It usually gets better one everything is warmed up.

Is there a relation between the the wheel speed sensor/ABS and brake light and the loss of power assist? Or are those systems completely unrelated?

Based on the knowledge of my '97 they are unrelated. I suggest you go to www.techauthority.com and invest in a factory service manual. It will be the most used tool in your shop.
