If it were my truck and the funds were available i would get an air locker. Then you could lock it when you pull and unlock it when you drive it on the street. That's my . 02$ worth!!
I changed them out on my '96 Dodge and it was a piece of cake! Less than an hour and I was going again. I do have a 70 rearend which is what the autos came with in this year. You should be able to remove a bolt, then tap out holding pin and remove the spiders without touching ring and pinion adjustments. I removed a locker spider set and installed regular ones, due to the locker type I had, tore up my driveway and rear tires whenever I turned in my gravel driveway. I bought my new spiders from a gear vendor in Portland, Or. for about $125. 00. I think the Dodge boys were a whole lot more. Good Luck, Herb
you finally broke a set of spiders, maybe you do have over 400rwhp.
sorry to hear about your luck, but if you put the stock parts back in they will break again. that's why i went with the air lockers. the least expensive good fix is to get a detroit locker. it does not use spiders. the factory lsd just doesn't work well enough to keep both tires spinning while sled pulling.
I've got a good factory Dana LS carrier that I don't need. It fits 4. 10 gears and I would like to trade it for the same unit fitting 3. 54 gears. It's been taken apart and checked out fine. For a daily driver in a Dana 80 I prefer the factory LS. Of the other choices for sled pulling and your power I would only consider the Detroit locker. The trade off is stressing the drivetrain while turning with a heavy trailer. I've had no experience with a ARB in a Dana 80 but have heard rolleyes: ) that the 80 airlocker won't handle the torque we make. I know that it is a good unit in other applications. The eLocker won't be available for at least a year (if ever) and I think the other models are manufactured in China.
Were you LS clutches worn out or why do you think the spider/differential gears gave out? Larry
