Thoughts, facts and opinions on Lubeguard as a transmission additive. I searched the forum and there are some old threads with a little information, but many are no longer available. If I missed one, please point it out for me.

Goerend is pretty emphatic about NOT using Lubegard with ATF+4 or AMSOIL, but recommends it with Dexron 3. Why? I understand AMSOIL voiding their warranty for any additive use, but what is the actual problem if any specifically with Lubeguard? I have contacted Lubeguard for their input, I know what AMSOIL's will be. "If it improved our product, it would already be in there."

Thanks

i've been using Lubeguard since 1996,my 96 with a DTT built transmission has been running Dex3 with Lubeguard for about 400,000 miles, and i even use the green for extra friction,NOT the red that turn DEX into ATF+4,,still going strong.my Megacab also uses Lubeguard but that gets the red stuff,
As for Amsoil,i never went for that snake oil salesman crap.good oil changed regularly is what works best.my engine oil has always been Premium Blue, and 2 engines with 1,000,000 on them tells me that pretty good oil,not to mention i ran 1000.s of gallon of home biodiesel in it,along with a ton of JetB,the thing still runs great today.

You can't beat a positive experience Hootguy. I stick with what works as well.

Lubeguard got back to me with in 24 hours of my web inquiry and indicated their red product is compatible with AMSOIL's Universal Transmission fluid. I am still interested in why Goerend stresses not to use Lubeguard with Amsoil T-fluid.

there are more then 1 lubeguard product, Ive used the red bottled one for years and its ok with atf4 , the one your talking about is used to convert dex3 for use in the 48re, not to be added to a transmission that already has atf4 in it

actually in my case,,i use Dex3 with the green for more grip,i know the green is usually used in Fords, but in my DTT built transmission it's been great, been doing this since about 2000 and over 400,000 on the trans,so it must be pretty good,

Best to build to not need additives. A 48RE is pretty simple to build so any additives are not required. No additive or high $$ fluid is going to replace timely fluid changes.

doesn't get much cheaper or easier than regular old Dextron 3 and a $10.00 bottle of Lubeguard,LOL..can't really argue my result,,plain and simple,i change the oil every year or 2 depending on my mileage and all's good,i never bought into the high dollar snake oils, change it often is usually better anyways,

Amsoil over priced to dump every 30k or once per year. Trying to make sure an additive is not diluted, work as intended, fluid is doing its job, etc, is really way too much to try to figure out when AT+4 is $4.27/qt and you need about 18 quarts to do a fluid exchange. Done and no worries about formulation or heat or anything else.

Not DEXRON III, that costs more than ATF+4 pretty much everywhere. Plain Dexron is marginally cheaper but not enough to warrant the use. Usage will determine the needs, ATF+4 has many benefits in a hard used transmission.

Goerend recommends the Lubegard BLACK (napa 760-2503, highly friction modified) for Dex 3.

Not needed with ATF+4 or Amsoil or Redline C+ or Schaeffer's 204SAT as they're more heavily friction modified than Dex 3.

The plain old Lubegard protectant is 60902 RED, napa 760-2501; entirely safe to use, Goerend did mention it keeps valve bodies very clean, but likely not needed for a high quality fluid.

like i said my DTT transmission has been on Dex3 and Lubeguard green for over 400.00 miles, not a single issue,,i do change it yearly now,but it used to get changed twice a year,in March and october before heading to race at Daytona, towning a 28 foot race trailer full of bikes and gear,a let me tell ya,there's a lot of hard hills on i-81 going though NY,Penn,Virgina,LOL.so my mix must be pretty good, the 48RE in my 07 Megacab does get Mopar ATF+4 though.

I've never found a hard hill on 81, all the way from Canada down to NC.
Just a bunch of Powerstrokes trying to race LOL.
