I'm considering some help for my stock steering. About a year ago, I was on a trip & hit a pretty good bump. My truck was wandering for the remaining 200 miles of my trip. Really had me worried with the trailer I was pulling. I felt pretty out of control.

Anyway, I went to the dealer several times & they finally figured out it was the track bar & replaced it. Based on what I've read in here, I can't believe they didn't know what it was right away.

So, what is everyone's thought on the Luke's Link or Darrin's Steering Stabilizer? I'm not sure if either will work to prevent the problem in the future. I don't want the same thing to happen, so I just need to figure out what the best solutions is.

Thanks.

i just installed a Luke's Link on my truck this past weekend at Kaufmann's in Pa. ,i've noticed a considerable improvement in the steering since... . id like a stabilizer just the same though... lol

by the way i had a couple of tdr guys ... larry willard and john styer provide CONSIDERABLE assistance... THANKS GUYS!!!

... and a special thanks to KAUFMANN'S who provided the space and tools!!!... a real FIRST CLASS group of guys... . BTW... if you change the bushing on the passengers side (track bar) make sure you remove the metal sleeve thats left behind when you remove original bushing!!!! good luck... . tom:)

Can't tell you about Luke's link, but Darin's steering stabilizer works wonders for tightening up the sloppy steering box itself. My truck drives better now, than when it was new. I did the track bar and stabilizer at the same time, so I can't say which made the most difference.

My 98 with about 70K miles began to wander. I had about 4” of slop in the steering wheel. After installing the DSS bracket the wander was gone. Then, I installed the Luke’s Link and felt a little more improvement but nothing like the DSS.

My dealer would not even look at the slop in the steering box and when he did a test drive, he said it was not as bad as some. No effort was made to correct the problem. I’m glad my warranty is over.

I installed the DSS yesterday. Pretty easy... even for me. The biggest challenge was picking up the tools I needed to do it. Took less than an hour.

The steering is a just a little tighter. Keep in mind it was pretty good as it was since I the first track bar was replaced under warranty 6 months ago. Now I don't have to worry about the same nighmare I went through last year when I bent the track bar on the interstate.

I run the DTT Trackbar and Darin's DSS. The combination of the two have done wonders for the front end feel of the truck! Even with worn out steering componentry (Tie rod ends) the truck still drives straight on the highway and backroads! My severe hunting issue is all gone now and couldn't be happier.
