meet

TMACC: Shovelhead posted this earlier:

jstyer,

I'll be comming through DC probably taking 210 to 228 into Waldorf to pick up 301.

There's a Circuit City at the corner of 228 & 301 in a Shopping Center that we use as a meeting point when we do bike rides.

I can wait there for the group to run past at that point.

I'll try to be there about 0700hrs. Will that work?

What CB channel do you run on?

I usually try to be at least 15 to 20 min. early for everything.

(habit I picked-up from my father)
and Wiredawg sent an e-mail earlier about meeting at rt 4 and 301 before proceeding to the meet with Shovelhead. Backing thing up that means we should meet at 4 & 301 about 6:30ish

John Styer

John,

6:30 might be pushing it for us. Remember, Doug and Burkey are coming from W. MD. How far is Budds Creek from Ron's? Further more, Where the heck is Budds Creek?

Doug F. Rt. 32 is Exit 80. About 25 miles east of Frederick. I'll PM you about hooking up.

Tom

Greg,

Do you want to ride down w/ somebody? Let me know as there are folks coming thru Frederick on Sat. morning.

Tom

Tom, I appreciate the offer. A big hats off to you and all the MD-TDR guys.

I'm gonna make a few phone calls tomorrow and see how much it would cost to get a clutch shipped 2 days UPS. If it won't cost a fortune I might go ahead and order one. Hopefully everything will fall together. If not, somebody be on the lookout for me early Saturday morning on I-70 standing on the side of the road with my thumb out :D

I did take it easy when the truck was stopped at red lights and stop signs. Like they say... . gotta pay to play

FFutch, your PM box is full.

Hey guys coming from W. MD and Frederick. I've been looking at the map and it would probably make more sense if I met you in Frederick and we went down 270 to the beltway. Cummin-n-VTwins suggested the park and ride a few mile south of Frederick at the Rt. 80 exit Number 26 I think. It would be a little shorter for you all. Do you think 5:30 is workable? When we first started talking about this I thought we would be going by Wiredawgs, but It looks like we should go the beltway to Exit 7 which is Rt 5. It looks like it's about 60 miles from Frederick. Shouldn't take more than about 30 min or so. :D Let me know.

Tom

Tom,

I am not familiar with the area either..... I know La Plata is on 301, but where to meet I don't know. I would love to hook up with all! My almost 9 year old son is coming with me, I think he is excited as I.

If anybody has a good spot to hook up along 301 let me know.

Thanks guys,

Doug

To all

If there is anybody coming down 301 that thinks they will need help finding the track, just let me know. The track is only 15 minutes from my house. I can come up to Waldorf and meet you, then lead you to the track. It's about a 30 minute drive from Waldorf to the track.

Ted

meeting place

The intersection of 310 & 228 that Shovelhead reffered to is only a few miles south of the intersection of rt 5 and rt 301, so if you're comming straight down 301 start looking after you pass the merge from rt 5. For those of you coming on rt 5 from 495 you start looking after you merge onto 301 and do not continue on rt 5. We will wait a reasonable amount of time for TMACC's group to arrive. Jetpilot, just watch for us coming down 301 if you are in LaPlata since we have to pass you to get to the track.

Wahington DC

So just how bad is it in DC Friday rush hour. Is it worth cutting through tthe curvy mountain roads with trailers? I'm thinking it'll be better to just suck it up and take 270 to 495E and down. Thanks for any help.

no telling really

I hope around 1600. I will leave here around 0600. Takes 6 hours to 79 then down to 68 over to 270. PM me your number and we can hook up on the trip down. You going down on Friday evening?

bad timing

You'll be coming through there at a rough time. As long as there are no accidents, just suck it up, and keep your foot on the brakes. There are some real idiot drivers here who will have no respect for the size of your truck or your trailer. They think you'll be able to stop on a dime, so just watch yourself.

I only live about 15 minutes from the track, so I don't need any help finding it. It's practically in my backyard. However if you need anything at all, just let me know.

I will be running the truck there Friday night though, so maybe I'll see ya.

Ted

Ted, I'll be hauling my 35' TT through there with Eric hauling a small u-haul. I'll be almost 60' long nose to tail. Do you still think we should just go right through DC? I don't mind adding miles and some time to avoid traffic snarls, and especially crazy drivers!

-Steve

Just do it!!!

Steve,

At that time, I don't think there is any easier way. The tractor trailers make it through, although I am sure they hate it. You'll be coming through towards the begining of the rush hour so it won't be as bad as it could be. The more past 1600 you get, the worse it will be. As long as there are no wrecks, you guys will be okay. Just bring your patients. If your following each other it may help, nothing like a convoy of trucks to make people get the hell out of your way. PM me with your cell #, if you have one, and I can give you my cell phone, in case something comes up. I took Friday off, so I can install my Amsoil dual remote bypass, so I will keep my eyes open for the traffic reports and keep you posted if there are any snarls.

Ted

Steve,

In one of your earlier posts you mentioned that you should be at the track Friday evening around 5:30, which would have you coming through the 270 exchange around 3. You should be slightly ahead of any rush hour traffic. Stack'd-n-Jack'd will probably hit a little more than you since he will be coming through around 4.

Now I'm not trying to scare you guys into taking another route, I was just trying to give you a "head's up" on what to expect. I work up here in DC, so I am in the traffic every day. If the traffic is not all snarled up, it will be rolling, and I mean rolling. I do 80, and have to get out of the fast lane cause I am to slow.

It's either gonna be good, or bad, not really much in between. Either way I would stick with 270, it's the best way unless there is a wreck. Then everything is out the window.

Your next problem area will be exiting the 495 Beltway onto Rt 5/Branch Ave South, exit 7B. The exit curves around to the right, kind of sharp so watch yourself, then it turns into the on ramp for the 495 North, so you have one lane for all the people getting off, and all the people trying to get on the Beltway. Might be easier (this is the way I go usually) it only takes a couple minutes longer. Take the Rt 5 / Branch Av North exit, exit 7A, stay to the left, turn left at the light, then left at the next light. This puts you on the same road, but you get to use the stop lights to get on to it. Then traffic should be okay, just thick, all the way through Waldorf till the La Plata area, then it should ease up some. Any question, don't hesitate to ask, I'll do what I can to help.

Route to follow

Guys. I'll be coming from the west as well but I don't mind the extra distance to travel 70 east past 270 to rt 29 and then onto route 100 to route 97 to route 3 (which becomes 301. I think the traffic is better. I'm only pulling a 35' 5th wheel.
