Who's Ready For Thunder in Muncie?

May Madness fax # for registration

Steve,

The way JStyer posted will be your best bet. 495 right around rt 97 has lots of constuction going on, and it is not easy on travel trailers. there are a coulple of bad bumps, and lane shifts.

Hope you guys have a good time. Ken

I-64 East from Kentucky all the way through West Virginia and Virginia to I-95 North, is my usual route.

We experienced the 495 Beltway last year on Sunday, returning home from visiting Annapolis, the Naval Academy. No thanks. I prefer the West Virginia interstate to that traffic . Scenery is better too. :D

I expect we'll leave REALLY early Friday morning.

zzzzzzz...woa, I'm must've dosed off!

He guys!

I've been busier than a one-armed wall paper hanger. Haven't been on the site in a while. Sounds like we're moving schedule up a bit to 0630 for meeting at 301 and Rt 4 at side road by Sheehy Dodge. Then, I reackon we'll meet up with more folks down in Waldorf.

I will send e-mail to all MD-TDR memebers about meeting points and to read this thread.

Looking forward to all the folks coming to the campground. We'll get a head start on visiting.

Note: Be prepared for mixed weather. Could be cool and some rain. Good idea to bring lawn chairs, coolers and grills. I'm bringing my smokey joe.

Just an FYI: I'm on standby with the AF and either my pager or cell phone have to work at the track or I'm on my way back. I'm pretty confident it will work though.

Well, that's all I can think of, other than see y'all at the meeting spots and the track.

Keep on rattl'n

Who all is dry camping at the track on Friday night? I can only do one night camping ... and that night is Friday ... I have to be back here Sat eve ..... if you dry camp in the pits ... . can you leave at will ... or is there a set time they will let you go? If they keep you captured there past 5pm ... . I guess I'll just be making a day trip out of it ..... anyone know?

Friday

Stack'd-n-Jack'd

I will be in the area of I81 and I70 between 3:30 and 4:00 pm Friday. Will travel the direction I gave until route 4 where I will be camping for the weekend by Wiredawg. I'll e-mail my cell phone number in case you're going to be in that in area of 70 & 81 at that time and will try to hook-up for at least 90 to 100 miles. there is a rest area at mile marker 39 on the top of South Mountain that we could meet at. If you have a CB, I'll keep it on channel 15 when I get close.

I have to concur with jstyer. Rush hour starts around here by no later than 3:30. Friday even earlier. If the weather is nice even earlier. I would try to clear 270 south/495 by 2:30-3:00(very latest). You should probably try to clear 495 and Rt. 5 by that time to miss most of the traffic. There will be very slow stop and go (up to 25 mph) traffic starting on the 270 south spur leading to 495 (a little before 495). It will continue most all the way around 495. There will be a few clear areas. The stop and go will be in place no later than 2:30/3:00. I think John's (jstyer) route will get you there at the same time (or sooner) even if a few more miles. I will add my cell number to my "Profile" (bottom of this post) if anyone has any questions/problems. I live at Rt. 100 and Rt. 95 and work in Annapolis. I will be somewhere between the two all day.

Dave.

tkobi, any idea where there is a decent car wash off 301 in the LaPlata area? The type with a spray wand, not the automatic drive-thru kind...

Thanks... ...

Route 301

CAM: See some of the earlier posts about travel on 301.

If you have a CB just keep calling for someone from the TDR and we'll try to answer you. I haven't seen anyone else post about 301 from the North yet. Our part is just the last 40+ miles.

John:)

A CB is the next priority on my list ! 4 & 301 are on the other side of the bridge, i was thinking maybe someone was coming from up North & we could meet before then. Thanks for the reply ,see ya all there, sounds like a excellent turn out for TDR folks.

Mike :D

Since I'm coming from Roanoke, I'll be heading up I81, over I64 to east of Charlottesville, then up VA231, US15, VA20, VA3 to Fredericksburg, then take VA218 over to US301, then up into MD.

That's about as straight as I care to make it. Works out to about 220 miles, maybe 4 hours and keeps me away from major metro areas. I'll be leaving around noon, so I might be at the track by 1630-1700. I'm assuming I'll average about 60.

Of course, now that I realize it's a one-day event, I have to figure out what to do Sunday, as I'm heading to Rickson in Sparks, MD, Monday morning!

jstyer,

John, I would suggest that you all use Rt. 32 south to Rt. 3 which turns into 301, instead of Rt. 29 to Rt. 100 to I-97. Rt. 100 is usually pretty bad during rush hour and 97 isn't much better and can be worse. On Rt. 32 you going against the rush hour traffic which is heading north. FWIW.

fest3er, Don't know if your into it, but the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum would be a good place to go Sun.

Briar,

I am sure there is a carwash there, I just don't know where. Don't get around the LaPlata area much. There is a nice one in Waldorf, which will be about a 20 minute drive north from LaPlata. There is one here in Mechanicsville, which is only 15 minutes from the track. Very easy to find. When are you coming in, where are you staying, and when do you want to clean it? Let me know, I will find something for you.

Hotel St. Laurent

Tom, Steve, Daniel, Will, Neal, myself and my wife are staying in Steve's trailer at the track Friday night.

Thanks, tkobi, Mechanicsville sounds better than Waldorf, so I'd appreciate some directions if possible. As Eric just posted above, I'll probably be staying at the track with Steve and the rest. Friday night would be a better time to wash the truck, it gets nuts on Saturday morning... .

Dave,I never been on the walk, sounds like fun. I do know that there is a mess of people who do it though.

Briar,

I will PM you with my cell phone number, just in case these directions aren't clear. I will be at the track Friday Night as well, around 6:30. My truck has a big American Flag sticker, in the shape of the good ole USA, in the back window so I should be easy to find.

Now to get to the carwash, as you come out the front gate of the track, across the street, there will be a small gas station, and a little to the left there will be a road, I don't know what the name is but take it. There is mostly Amish along there, and there are alot of curves, so be careful going through there. You'll stay on this road for a few miles, and evetually it will come to a stop sign. This road is Rt5 South. Take note of the Mobil station to your left, this will be your marker for coming back. Cross over the two South bound lanes, and turn left onto the two Northbound lanes. You will then go through a stop light, then a few miles up the road there will be a flea market on the right, then a Burger King, and a Mcdonalds. Just after the McDonalds there is a BP gas station, the car wash is behind it. You should be able to see it from the road. There is a sign that says "Car wash", but it's hard to see. If you see the 7-11, or end up at the stop light then you passed it. No problem though, just take a right at the light, then another right, and you'll see it.

Look foward to meeting you guys.

Ted
