I am going to use Amsoil synthetic ATF but just draining the pan doesn't get it. How do I get the oil out of the torque converter. I have read up in my shop manual but nothing says "drain converter here". Does it need to be pumped out or what? Don't want to contaminate new oil with the old stuff.

Thanks.

You can figure the total capacity of the transmission, find out how much you drain out of the pan, then subtract if from the total capacity this will give you X quarts still in the transmission. Then mark a bucket where x quarts will be. put your new pan on, fill with fluid, remove return transmission cooler line, place in bucket, start truck and let pump until you hit the mark on the bucket. You might take two starts to do this depends on how low you want to run your transmission fluid, so you can fill it up again and start it if you didn't hit the mark on the bucket during the first attempt.

Although I've not done it I heard that you can remove one of the cooler lines. Start the engine and when the flow stops turn the engine off. I'm not sure how you'll determine which is the incoming line and which is the return line but you could put drain hoses on both the removed line and the cooler. That way one of them is going to push ATF out in to a pan. I'd also have someone at the key to turn off engine at the flow drops off. A couple years ago I drilled and taps the oem converter. Now I have ATS and don't have that problem. Good luck

Take It To A Transmission Shop That Has A Flush Machine That Can Exchange All The Fluid. Running A Trans Low By Cracking A Line Could

Damage It.

Thanks for all the good ideas you guys. After mulling it all over I think I will do as DHawk suggests. I wanted to this myself but taking to someone that has the expertise would be best. Thanks again.
