Magnaflow performace muffler

I spent a couple of days searching the web and going to various muffler shops and diesel shop in my area looking for a muffler that required a minimum of pipe cutting, fit in the space of the original (of course a 55 gallon drum would also fit in this space), had a nice mellow sound, low but not loud, and reduced back pressure. I finally decided on a Magnaflow performace-N, 4" in, 4 " out, straight through design. Boy am I happy with the results!! It has a l nice, deep tone when you step on it, at 75 or 80 MPH has a little bit of a drone sound, but very livable. When you get behind the truck when it is idling, it sounds great!!



I don't have temperature gages (yet), but this would have to lower the temperature, there is no restriction in the muffler whatsoever, it a 4" pipe right through the muffler. If any of you guys are looking for a good sounding system that reduces back pressure, I would definitely look at the Magnaflow, for $149. 00, it is considerably cheaper than replacing the entire exhaust system, IMO.

Do you have part number? Also, what did you do about the fact that the inlet and outlets are offset?

The Magnaflow I used I believe has a part # of 17223 almost makes the truck sound like my ol' '97 did ,that's a good thing I did however go the total 4" route with the stock tailpipe and used my old hunk of chrome from the '97!! Looks good I think ,Some day if I figure out how to post pix I will do so!!!

Magnaflow part number

Imills, the part number is 12772 in aluminumized steel, the stainless steel version of the same muffler is part number 14772. I did not price the SS version, but I'm sure they are proud of them. The offset was not that big of a deal, the replacement muffler is much smaller, therefor you have some wiggle room on the inlet side. The muffler shop that I bought the Magnaflow from made a small bend in a piece of 4" necked pipe that was needed anyway to adjust for the shorter length of the new muffler. Any good sized muffler shop that has a pipe bender can make the "adapter" in a couple of minutes for you, they charged me 9 bucks for the pipe and labor.

what is the sound out fo the pipe at idle does it have and airy sound? or is it a real sharp sound cackle sound? need and honest opinion.

Magnaflow sound

Catcracker, the muffle at idle has a low, mellow tone, very pleasant sound as far as I'm concerned. When you get on it off the line, you get a louder sound, authoritative, would let someone next to your or behind you know that you have an "engine" in your truck. If you cruise at 75 or 80 MPH you get a little more cab noise, kind of a drone, but not too bad here either. I normally put my cruise control on at just below 70 where I get the best fuel efficiency, and you could barley hear the difference over the stock muffler. The muffler does not have a sharp, unpleasant, cheap, tone. That's my honest opinion Catcracker, I can give no less or no more, I don't own stock in the muffler company nor do I profit from the sales. I found, after several days of research and looking, a product that makes my truck sound better and eliminates any back pressure.
