I got 2 red Magview's--love the fact that you can see the level without having to crawl under the truck and use a dipstick, but I don't think you can go wrong with the Mag Hy-tec either--good choices either way--chris

I've heard from people that the mag-views are not as high of quality as some TDR members would like. I think it has something to do with the swaybar and also internal clearance of the gears.

This topic has been discussed recently, so you ight also check the old posts. I do want to mention that Roy/Mag Hytec makes great products and give excellent service.

I still cast my vote for Mag-Hytec. Their products are absolutely first rate!

BTW, I have the Mag-Hytec Dana 70 diff. cover, the Deep trans. pan and I just recently purchased the new Double Deep trans. pan. The quality was excellent with the first two products I purchased from Mag-Hytec (JUST after they released them for sale)... and my most recent purchase is just as good if not better. How in the heck can you beat that?

Thanks for the input. At Joe’s suggestion I found a lot of info on past posts—need to get in the habit of looking there first. When the time comes I’m going with the Mag-Hytec. The IRS has hit me hard this year, and all further additions are on hold for a while.

With the Mag Hytec transmission pan, how much ground clearance is lost, if any? I have a 2wd, and don't have a bunch of clearance to loose.

VeeTenJeff,

this was lifted from Genos Garage site, seems to answer the question pretty well #ad

MAG-HYTEC "DOUBLE DEEP" PAN
Available early March, 2001

This is a new product offering (available 3/1/01) from the folks at Mag-Hytec. The “Double Deep” pan has all the same features as the Deep Pan: magnetic drain plug, pre-drilled 1/8” NPT fitting for a temperature sensor, transmission gasket, and mounting hardware. In addition, with the Double Deep pan, the inside depth of the pan is increased from 3” to 5 1/4”, which adds another four quarts of fluid capacity to the system. The kit includes spacer hardware to relocate the transmission filter deep into the sump. For those concerned with the pan being too obtrusive, the Double Deep pan is still tucked 1/2” above the truck’s center cross-member of the frame. Geno’s Garage includes a Mopar transmission replacement filter with your purchase as well.

I am about to order the Mag/Hytec "Double deep" trans pan. I dont have to modify anything to fit the double deep, do i?. Also, any idea of a place to get it with a good price? I was looking at Geno's, can i do better?. Also, i have the 2001 with the rear sway bar, will there Differential cover work with that?
Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know anything about the trans pan, but as far as the rear diff cover: If you've got a 4x2 then I believe you need a spacer for the sway bar, if it's a 4x4 I don't think you need this spacer.

From what I've found, Geno's has a good price. If you find a better price, let me know. I asked Carl (www.wwcd2.com) about a group purchase, and he told me he already did that and to contact Don Peters @ donpeters@chartertn.net. I haven't contacted Don yet.

Check with Mag-hytec for the info on the sway bar. I have 2500 4X4 and there is no problem with the factory sway bar. Don't know if 3500's are different.

I just added the Dana 70. Very high quality and well engineered. The dip stick is way cool.

BTW, I didn't get mine direct from Mag-hytec, but I believe you can purchase direct from them at the same price as through other vendors. Plus, they have offered a 25% discount off the price of LE 607 (which they now endorse over Amsoil).

Hope this is still current and accurate.

I have a 3500 4x4 with Mag-hytec, no problems fitting with sway bar. Fits great and looks great(my wife even mentions how good it looks). I got mine from Geno's, just ordered the double deep tran's pan, should be here next week. Also ordered DTT VB and TC which should be here next week too, Yee-haw!

do not know how the dip stick for the mag-hytec is sealed but I would not want anything with a dip stick in it if I was going to back the truck into water to unload a boat. The rear end gets real warm and when It hits cold water things contract and can act like a vacum. I know from experience on this one.
P. S. Transmission can do the same thing, again experience.

Ron, the Mag-Hytec differential cover dipstick is ABSOLUTELY water tight! The dipstick and cover have precision cut threads and there is an O-ring seal with a corresponding precision machined chamfer in the cover to allow for proper O-ring crush when the flange of the dipstick is tightened against the precision machined counterbore in the cover. Roy machines aircraft parts for a living... his covers and pans are better engineered and fabricated than anything else on the market. If you haven't seen one, check it out before you spend your money... you won't be sorry. The O-ring retention method he machines in the periphery of the differential cover (to seal the cover to the differential) is very trick and works very, very well. It is vastly superior to any gasket or silicone... not my opinion, just a matter of fact.

Lubrication Engineers 607 differential oil. Talk to Roy at Mag-hytec for his opinion. This brand has been debated in the past on the TDR against Amsoil and other's. I don't think LE 607 is a synthetic, but some say that it "tests" out better than Amsoil. I'm not going there... ... .

Thanks High Voltage... finally someone who knows the correct terminology... it's 4x2 not 2x4 #ad

= 4 wheels x 2 wheels driven

PS: you're going to like the trans. pan, same high quality you have come to expect from Mag-Hytec products. Mine has been off a couple of times now and the gasket surface is still laser flat. Now I need to pull it again so I can install my new Double Deep trans. pan. #ad

I have the Mag\Hytec diff cover,GREAT product. I also have been to there shop,GREAT place. I have the 4x2 with the sway bar and didn't need the spacers. All the seals are o-ring type,+ the dip stick. Also run the LE-607 oil,NO LEAKS NO PROBLEMS,next on the list, trans pan. #ad
