OK, since I am limited by my finances and my truck can't be as fast as I want it to be right now, I want to at least make it look like its fast. I'll have my stacks here and installed be next weekend and I want to be able to make a rediculous amount of black smoke whenever I want to. What will I need to do? I have a Comp on the way so that will be my basis, what else will I need?

Thanks,

R. J.

 wow, must be one of those guys who walks around with one of those dental masks on. :-laf

wish i could help.

All the while I'm light-pedaling mine to try to minimize the smoke, especially at launch and at each shift when towing. :{ Go figger, I guess... .

Rusty

wow ...

RJPotts I'm with you ... love the smoke ... stage 4 edms and a drag comp get the job done ...

to feel better go to great smoke stories and read up ...

hopefully these guys can start a NO smoke stories thread and see how that goes ...

Don't worry snowking i'll make enough smoke for both of us ...

i guess you run the comp box and jammer injectors to clean up your exhaust hunh?

NO, this juvenile does not even want to drive down the road. He stated that he want to be able to polute the world just setting there. Not very smart in my book. Next he will complain about ever increasing smog tests for diesels and low sulfur diesel etc etc. SNOKING

Lets see, if we did a little man on the street quiz! Diesel Truck lays down a smoke screen leaving a stop light. Multiple choice question to casual observer:

A. That thing needs a tune up

B. That is bad.

C. Where is the EPA!

D. Cough cough finger.

E. That was cool.

Where do you think the answers will fall!

In reality the person driving the truck is about the only one that thinks it is cool.

I own three Cummins Diesels, two in the boat and one in the truck. I am not a tree hugger. But guys there are diminishing returns going on here. SNOKING

Those who can go fast, go fast. Those who can't watch. Personally, I've got a smokeless 450 hp right now and I've got a plan for twins this summer so I can brake the 500 hp mark smokless as well. My personal favorite thing to do is walk away from a stock turbo'd, over fueled, smokeing diesel with little more than a slight grey haze from my pipe.

To each his own but to answer the guy's question directly, look into some some of crop duster-like oil injection because "rediculous amounts of black smoke" doesn't happen from a streetable diesel pickup without load. My $. 02

I agree with SNOKING. Its crap like this that gives diesel powered vehicles a bad rap.

I spend so much time trying to convince my friends and guys at work that diesels are superior to gasoline engines and they always reply that they are noisy and SMOKEY.

Man, I never would have guessed RJ's post would start such a debate. He did say "whenever I want to". This doesn't mean always and yes I know the title.

RJ, your comp will do fine for now and will provide smoke especially under the turbo. Congrats on the new toys.

Am I the only one who picked letter E?

nope i pick E too! ;)

I pick "E" also, but I think SNOKING's point was that most people that dont know diesels or havent drove diesels would NOT pick "E".

And if the public's view of diesels changes, maybe demand increases enough and we get more diesel options in mid size pickups and cars.

Smoke is cool until YOU are the guy behind the truck getting sooted on.

It's the height of hypocrisy to think that smoke is COOL, if you don't also think it's cool to be the sootee, not just the sooter.

Billowing clouds of black smoke indicate poor engineering and a lack of knowledge. If you're a puller, that's one thing. But, you're not. Wake up and smell the soot. YOU are not Kent Crowder. YOU are not Dave Mitchell.

Give it up and quit posing.

Building a low-hp smoke machine is the diesel equivalent of a huge racing wing on a Honda with fake knock-off spinning hubcaps from Pep Boys. "All hat and no cattle".

If it matters, I agree with the above post, especially the second line. All criticism about the air and ecosystem aside, for this second, and no flaming. Smoke is useless! Smoke doesn't show that you are fast! Smoke shows that you have an inefficient engine and are either a poser or just too cheap to buy a proper turbo, or both.

Take diesel engine manufacturers. For some unknown reason they can keep on increasing the HP output with each new engine they come out with, while keeping within the guidelines of emmissions. Actually it's not an unknown reason, maybe to you though. Now you can't tell me they're increasing smoke levels to make more HP, you know that man.

I'll excuse the smoke stories thread as they ain't just sitting there looking at how much smoke they can make. Heck, what does that prove anyway? Incomplete combustion, right? Do you know what that is? Yes, you can excuse the overfueling of competition vehicles, only because they need whatever ounce of HP that they can get, they're looking for max VE. It ain't just for show, although it comes off that way. You don't have dire necessity for 110% VE in a street pickup truck. You ought to do some searching on this forum. Follow the lines of Lenny and Gene, they've proved that there is such thing as clean performance. It's just like a CB on here, you've got to search through a lot of skip.

Smoke responsively! ;)

Okay, i think it's time people got back to the basics and stopped attacking other peoples character on the basis of what they think is "cool", just because someone likes the look of a great big cloud of soot from a diesel pickup doesn't mean that they're an evil person bent on destroying the environment and those who are trying to preserve it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but check the character slurs at the front door - please.

From SNOKING:

"NO, this juvenile does not even want to drive down the road. "

From Hohn:

"Give it up and quit posing. "

It's not just from this post, but from other posts with people who are attacking other members (and non members) characters unfoundedly.

If i was an admin on this site, i would definitley get involved in this as it seems to be getting out of hand to me. It seems to me, if the main reason you are posting in reply to a thread is to try to "bash" someone, then you should probably not hit the submit button.

All things aside, everyone involved has a point, especially in this topic, and a right to discuss that point, the attacking is what is an issue here. Before i get any flaming replys from anyone, the answer is YES i read this entire thread front to back, every letter of every post, and im NOT missing the point.

Just my whoppin . 02
