I'm was impressed to see that this post had so many replies, until I opened it and started reading. Maybe I shouldn't have made such a braod statement about what I wanted FOR THE TIME BEING, since many people have read too much into this. I'm not out to pollute the environment and soot all over people, and if I do, sorry. I do my best to keep it clean going down the road and I have no intention of hammering down on it everywhere or sitting at every red light I come to and leaving a cloud of smoke for everyone else to drive through.

I like smoke, I dont' mind driving through other people's smoke. If I want to smoke I'm going to and I'm not going to do it all the time, or even often. It will be more of a "dragstrip antic", but I don't feel I should have to defend myself on what I want to do on TDR, wouldn't it be easier and leave less ruffled feathers to ASK WHY I would want to do something like this instead of jumping down my throat because you question my reasoning.

SORRY, WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN

-R. J.

Well now, that changes things a bit, doesn't it??

"wouldn't it be easier and leave less ruffled feathers to ASK WHY I would want to do something like this instead of jumping down my throat because you question my reasoning"

Totally. If anyone jumped to conclusions like I did, then they should apologize like I am.

I apologize, and ask for your forgiveness. Next time, I'll try to remember to give someone the benefit of the doubt.

he he he

:-laf Go buy one of those naturally aspirated Fords or Chevy diesels. :--) . . all the smoke you want  without making a Cummins look like trash! Oo.

:-{}

ENOUGH ALREADY! The heck is wrong with you guys? this isnt a flame war diesel stop/place! the member was asking a question. He is NOT asking your opinion on weather you like smoke or not or if its good or bad.

If you dont know how to make your truck smoke why post? that was the question "HOW TO SMOKE" not "HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT SMOKE"

Im not tring to bash the "non-smokers" Im the comp box low boost smoke but thats it, a little more is nice but im happy where I am BTW!

judus come on guys!

If you want to smoke buy a 12V reach your goal alot easier. Also use the "search" button and type in smoke and you will find A TON of information! and hopefully minimal BASHING from fellow cummins owners.....

I think the non-smokers were worried that too many smokers could bring about another round of EPA controls just as heavily smoking trucks got them started in the first place. The next time they might demand the manufacturers make the controls completely tamper proof. I know I worry about that. My truck is still stock for noe, but someday I would like to enhance it's performance. I relly hope I will still have that choice.

Yeah, I don't kow why you refer to us as "non-smokers". Because we can't say that our trucks haven't emitted exhaust smoke before. Can't lie to you. But I simply think that the wording in the original post reminded some of us about a lot of the newer uneducated posers that just worry about how much smoke they make, and are clueless that smoke doesn't equal power. Kind of like a lot of people out there who are novices to diesel power. Again, i'm going to excuse whole emissions thing right now. Think how much different this thread would be if it would have said something about wanting to "be" fast in the original post. Also, think how much different it would be if it wouldn't had referred to "smoke" showing that your "fast". Also, you probably didn't offend us. Just got our attention. ;) :)

He didn't ask anybodys opinion on if they like smoke or not,he asked a simple question. And now everybody is giving him a hard time about it. I thought these forums were for asking questions, and that is what he did. But I don't think we should shoot some body down for asking a question like that. These forums are great,I just think we should keep them on track with the thread.

Well put IColeman... . I believe in the old ancient chinese saying " Diesel Smoke makes me Horny". Oo. I guess put me down for "E". :D BTW if I worried about what those people (A through D) thought of me and my choice of vehicle / driving habits I'd walk. ;)

It's America, everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if it is wrong :-laf , or doesn't follow your line of thinking. There's no problem with trying to EDUCATE why smoke doesn't equal power or speed but let's not get our BVD's in a wad. It will be the eventual evolution of every ctd owner to have a clean burning efficient higher horse machine if they stick with it and the knowledge/skill level increases.

p. s. How do you make 'em smoke?

Yeah, I don't kow why you refer to us as "non-smokers". Because we can't say that our trucks haven't emitted exhaust smoke before.

My "non-smokers" comment was to the FELLOW TDR members that dont really care to gain smoke but rather want to add power. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion but come on guys when I read threads that go stray from the question on a "hot" topic (trans, SMOKE, brands) and it makes me wonder why it went away from the original topic. I just read a thread on here that was linked to the diesel stop about a ferd guy telling his other ferd friends that the 6. 0's do have problems and the thread was POINTLESS from the original post. WHY take up space on TDR over nothing. This is a benificial site for everyone and I know we all have our differences but come on enough is enough!

Im done

I don't get it. People have been arguing agenst the smoke thing in an effort to get the point across that a properly configured streetable diesel machine shouldn't produce insane volumes of smoke. This is their way of avoiding the orignal question because they don't believe it should happen in the first place. Honestly I stand with the clean burning crowd. I do like my puff from time to time but it's not much and not often.

Just the same I'll step up and try to answer the question. You want smoke, get a set of big 'ol slobbery injectors like... . Bullydog 6's come to mind. They should be plenty inefficient. Add to that a drag comp and smoke away.

Is that what we're looking for? Just keep in mind smoke = inefficiency = heat. You get enough fuel in there to make that kind of smoke and you will damage other stock components of your truck.

This thread makes one wonder why alot of the "old guard" was talking about the current state of the TDR... ... . HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Looking in the mirror may be a good start.

This place isn't half what it was when I joined 8 years ago and it's not the poor dudes fault cause he wants a hot running truck with a little smoke. IMO it's the guys' fault that jumped all over him because he asked a simple question.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hope this helps some in regaurds to the smoke you're looking for?

The Comp is a good start, and if you can aford it some nice stage 3 or bigger injectors (non EDM's if you want smoke) are a great source of the stuff. Those injectors can be had at some good prices used since most are running EDM's now. One thing you want to remember is that with that smoke is going to come some increase in EGT's so be prepared for that.

The other day, I went out to start my truck to charge the batts up alittle. Last time DOC did something they must have gotten something hooked up wrong cause now the parking brake dash light stays lit with the brake set and the ignition off and key out. Anyway I'm sitting there just idling. Younger woman walks by and pinches her nose with her thumb & finger. I guess I should go idle someplace else. Prolly so cause many states have, and all soon will have. Anti idling laws on the books. And this is stopping trucks from being a comfortable environment for the drivers that live in them. We're getting better answers to the comfort problem now, nobody wants to idle their truck, fuel is like gold these days. But seems the youth of the nation just has to be noticed, even if it's for something that is received negatively by the rest of the population. I know, I used to burn a set of tires off every couple months and had to be the first one to the next red light just to sit there. No kidding though. . . that's what makes the ones that wanna tell everybody else what to do work hard at getting new laws. Personally, I think everyone should mind their own business more, but some think everything is there business. Guess I'm just getting old. Now if I chirp rubber I get upset with myself.

Cheers,

screw her--she can walk on the other side of the street--

DarrelB--you are so correct that this place isn't what it was--back in the day we talked mostly about power and smoke--god that was nice--no name calling or attacks--unless it was in good fun--I miss that--

sometimes guys come across in ways that they probably don't intend--but that's internet life, but again some guys shouldn't post what they think--answer the question or stay away--

my 24v smokes like a 12v and I drive it everyday and for sledpulls and dyno competitions and I could care less what anyone thinks or says--it's my truck and there's nothing governing me at this point--I will also say I get more thumbs up than thumbs down and I live in SAN FRANCISCO--yes I do try and not smoke everyone out--hence the stack thru the campershell--but sometimes it happens---you shouldn't be so close or drive like a fricken blinded rat---

you want smoke, buy a box and the biggest set of injectors(bigger is better) you can afford and upgrade your auto or manual transmission and have some fun--you may get some smoke at idle, but it takes some awfully big injectors to do it and I mean big---chris

There's a lot more here than when I left yesterday, I guess this is a pretty hot thread, not the way I was really hoping for it to be, but what can you do. Just to set the record straight, I don't want a truck that does nothing but blow smoke everywhere all the time, or I would have bought a POS N\A GM 6. 5 or something. I want a truck that runs CLEAN unless I want to make smoke, and those times are few and fairly far between but if I want to make a cloud that covers a parking lot (maybe not the whole parking lot), or to let someone know I don't like how close they are following me, I will and I'll love every second of it and I don't think that is too awful.

David, if you read this again, hopefully I'll have some stacks to put on here in the next week or so, Comp arrived today (sitting beside me pleading with me to forget about the warranty and my clutch).

Oh well, I'm glad this thread turned from war to mild arguement. And for those of you that said sorry, (I saw a few) thank you.

RJ, let me know when you install them. I might want to come watch... I can drink beer while you bust your hands all up. :-laf

Don't worry about the smoke. You've seen mine run and it's not nasty under full boost. But under boost...

It cleaned up pretty well when the turbos spooled up, I like the smoke it makes at the line though, that's pretty much what I'm after. Good, controllable, smoke at low boost and clean when the needle comes around.

Absolutely, if you wanna come watch me install the stacks, come on. I'll even supply the beer.

When's the next shop day, I need to get these gauges in. I'll supply the beer then too.

R. J. , and all the smokers :-laf,

Take a look at the last three lines of my above post at the top of the page. I think your intentions were just misunderstood, maybe caught at a bad time, or maybe reminded some of us of people that we see or meet that just want to smoke up the world. You're probably a lot like some of the people on here. Don't fret, just because people talk back. In some cases talkback is good, like on a CB. :D
