Competition Stanford July 3rd Results

I personally think Joe's achievement is one hell job well done. We could all make 800hp with enough drugs, and turbos. Why not nitromethane I used it in gokart engines, why not a diesel? With enouh drugs we could all blow the crank out the bottom.

I agree that Joe has accomplished a lot with Sickly. I would like to know the boost numbers that accompanied the dyno runs for all of the 700+ hp guys. I realize you probably don't give this info out, Joe :).

To me, someone making 800 hp on 75 psi with twins (no drugs) is far more impressive than someone making 800 hp on 100 psi off of a big single (no drugs).

I realize that in most situations, the twins will be pushing more boost, but it'd be interesting to actually compare.

Why is a setup with twins more impressive than a truck with a single charger?

I agree and disagree - I agree that twins are just plain cool and have the potential for a lot of HP... but you really gotta hand it to the guys that have been able to make a single charger work.

Now - everyone's perception of what 'works well' is different... so the big HP single charger trucks could be complete lag pigs and we'll never hear about it on the TDR.

It's not the fact that it has twins that makes it more impressive - it's the fact that it was done at a lower boost level in my example there. Making more horsepower per pound of boost seems to me to be a better indicator of a good setup than making more horsepower per turbo...

Chris

Gotcha.

Methinks that's because a twin-turbo setup has two turbos operating well within their compressor maps - making efficient boost.

As opposed to a big single that has to operate well outside of its compressor map to make the big boost numbers...

Matt

The twins will give you cooler air so the result is more H. P. at less boost. With both turbos well in their map the compressed air is a lot cooler than a single turbo. My H2E at 45-50# had the same temp rise as my twins at 73# of boost.

75-80 depending on how it's setup!

Exactly! Why is it that so many people think 600 rwhp on a single turbo at 1500 degrees EGT is more impressive than 600 rwhp on twins with 10 less pounds boost and only 1100 degrees EGT?

Chris

Chris: To each, his own.

I'm a twins kinda guy - some folks swear by singles.

Some folks run singles so they can compete in the lower classes as well...

Hell yeah hp is hp. I respect high diesel only numbers, but sometimes nitrous seems like the better route. Diesel only numbers take ALOT more money. I don't know how streetable a truck can be after 800hp diesel only as far as smoke and getting the chargers lit. What tickles my fancy is extreme power driven on the street. A jab of nitrous may be the ticket after 700hp.

A quick spirt of HP is great on the dyno or the 1/4 mile, where I have a lot of fun, but that won't get my 12,000# trailer to where I am going. My ultimate goal is to have a truck that will do decent numbers and still be able to tow.

Give me a chance, I can only do and afford so much;)

Why? Cause its a smaller number. With the exception of EGTs, everyone wants all the other numbers high! High boost, high horse, high torque. So they assume 100 psi/600 hp/1500 EGT single is better than a 75 psi/600 hp/1100 EGT because of the 25 psi more boost.

It won't be, you know that as well as I do!

Most people's level of streetablity is different than others, right now my truck is more than streetable, don't know were the power is at but it's good with the new mods I've made, cruise's nice on the road at 600 degrees EGT@4-5 psi and gets 20 MPG..... no smoke, and you can actually roll on some good power... say 500 without any smoke show!
