Hey folks, I have a 2019 tradesman crew cab diesel with a max tow rate of 19k. I am in the process of setting it up to bumper pull every bit of that, albeit not that often. I have a 20k bumper pull dump trailer I will be using for various projects. I want to be able to pull it with the aev lift and rim/tires combo eventually when the 2019+ kit is released which I know retains the factory specs but I also want to do it safely and confidently. I am looking for recommendations on towing kit I can use with the aev setup. Weight distributing hitch, helper springs, etc. any help would be greatly appreciated as I don’t want to swap out hitches when I put on the aev stuff down the road.

thanks much

What size tires? Taller tires are really going to put a hurting on that transmission pulling close to max weight. I'd be worried about that for starters.

.

Stock tires for now. Looking to put on 37’s or possibly 40’s with the aev lift and 4.10 gears

No way "I" would try and pull that weight with those size tires (even with 4:10 gears) but that's me. I'm sure you will kill that transmission in no time. You are also going to need one heck of a stout drop hitch with that lift/tire combo to pull that weight. I think weight distribution and helper springs will be the least of your worries.
Best of luck and let us know how it works out if you do it though.

Before you start lifting you may want to measure how much drop shank you will require. The lift plus half the tire diameter difference will tell you how much additional length you will need in a drop shank for the equalizer hitch. My stock 3500DRW needed a 4" drop with my car trailer so you could easily need a 10" or longer shank.

will an equalizer hitch even work with that much drop. I have a 14K Lb pull behind dump. I've seen some folks with lifted trucks pulling loaded dump trailers that look like they're about to take off.

I wouldn't lift anything even if I was only going to pull the dump trailer ONCE, cuz that's all it takes.

Good luck with your project, Ron

Yeah I have been toying with the idea of having an overland setup and a towing setup. Hopefully with something like the aev set up its little more than swapping tires and spacers.

You will need 4.30's with the 37's, 4.56's with the 40's if want to max out the tow ability and not. Hitch is going to be the question with the drop you will have, do it right the first time and spend the $$.

Which would you suggest?

Not running 37’s or 40’s and wanting to tow 19K lbs.

Gearing aside, anything you do to lift it will effect the strength of the stock mounting points.

Gearing is great for large tires and correcting the final drive ratio, but it don’t do anything for how the torque is held by the frame.

Pick one, towing 19K lbs or a lift and big tires.

Any recommendations on a wdh to support a 20k dump trailer?

Blue Ox offers a 20K WDH. I’ve never used Blue Ox, but read mostly good things.

The OEM hitch is rated for 1800/17000. Are you going to upgrade that?

It sounds like I have to. How does ram say the tow rating is 19k+ but doesn’t specify how that’s accomplished?

I just got under there to check it out and the parts sticker was still on it. It’s a 20k hitch.
