Competition Sled Pulling Future Discussion

The numbers between the DD dyno and SS dyno are almost identical, but there are some out there that would have people believe otherwise. The bottom line is put up at the time when everyone else does.

Interesting side note.

I believe all of the ATS trucks were running drug free. I know the Duramax was. Was there anyone else faster on #2 only?

I heard there was a Subaru with a smoked clutch kicking some butt there as well. Whats the story behind that?

Are you saying I'm not drug free? I know Blair Pine ran Nowell's truck and a lot of the runs were without nitrous due to traction problems. Many people had a look under my hood at the dyno as well as the race track and they can all tell you my truck was drug free and it will probably stay that way for awhile if not indefinately.

Way to be Nathen. I'll be #2 only. JUST SAY NO!!! :D

As a side note, I can now hang my bosses crewcab, that use to be an addict. :D It now has injectors, and a turbo.

I'm not saying anything like that!

Just asking a question. Some don't list NOS in thier signatures. Thats why I asked.

Ahhh, drugs! For a year or so, Nowel has been bragging about getting his little Red Rocket off drugs. It was clean and drug free for a long time. One visit to May Madness, and it is a mainlining, hardcore drug addict again, compete with the shakes :D Sure does look good on the track, though . . . 12. 7 ET with that little river rat (named with honorable intent after the drag racing great, Lee Shepherd), our own Honda powered margarita maker, ta da, Blair Pine. Yep, the same BP whose beautifully maintained 1996 3500 won Best of Show.

As an addendum, I watched Blair during one run where he took off gradually while the competitor (aka victim) raced far ahead along the quarter mile. Then, whoosh, the Red Rocket took off and chased after the other truck, and we all waited with trepidation. Yep, he passed the other truck before the lights. I thought, wow, what a display of racing savvy--sandbagging at the start, instead of the safer but lower showmanship manner of putting on the brakes after passing the victim.

Poor Blair let out the sad truth later over margaritas. He had started in second because he had never driven the RR before and was unfamiliar iwth the shifter. Darn good thing Nowel put enough hp into the RR to overcome such antics :D

Such are the thousand stories of MM03. Those who were there will remember, the rest will grit their teeth with envy.

Truth Be Told

Joe, it wasn't me insisting on the drugs, it was BP and his co pilot Cliffman. Did you know that Cliffman was helping BP pilot the 'Rocket"? BP's arms were too short to reach all the buttons which recquired our co pilot man the essential switches to get the rocket down the track.

So naturally these 40+ year old juveniles needed more of a rush once they knocked off a couple 112 mph runs down the abbreviated mile. NEED MORE NEED MORE!!! So the adrenyline junkies had to have the squeeze or else:(

Darn, Nowel,

Now you gotta spend the next 6-8 months detoxing the Red Rocket and get it outta the Betty Dodge center. [uhhh, can't be the Betty Ford center for a Ram :D ]

Whatcha ya gonna do next year, I gotta warn Sickly there is a red rocket about to . . . up his. . . .

:D :D

Can't wait for another go at it, Tenth Anniversary May Madness next year. Can we overcome the next hurdle? Oo.

What might that be Joe? 1000hp on #2 :D or is 800 and some change enough? What's the goal for sickly and the lag hog in the coming year? Inquiring minds want to know :D

What a rush

That was a lot of fun Nowel! BP and I were a hell of a team goen down the track. It's been a long time since I've gone 115 mph in 12. 7 seconds. Only problem is this 220 lbs button pusher my be adding a little time to that 12. 7. How about next time I ride in the back for traction and operate those buttons by remote control. :D

You guys are having way to much fun here but not more than I had driving the Red Rocket I am sure. This years May Madness was a blast maybe the BEST ever. I just want to thank Nowel for letting me drive his ride, he came to me after his ordeal getting there left him with only a few hours of sleep and asked if I could get it down the track for him and what was I to say, YES of course.

If you have ever gazed into the cockpit of the Rocket you will see there are way to many gadgets for a 135 lb guy to handle by himself so add co pilot Cliffman for some added comfort and fun factor.

We sure had a great time and I think I have that thing half figured out so look out next time with a little practice I think I can do the Rocket a little more justice next time. :D

Hey Joe where did I get the River Rat nickname from? Don't make me come polish Sickly now I would sure hate you to lose your reputation of being the ???? in town.

I have to go through them still. Currently not at home... ... ... ... ..... I'll find a decent one and post it I have a few... ...

Hey, Blair,

Reher and Morrison were two "full figured" racers who went into NHRA Pro Stock about 30 years ago. They brought in Lee Shepherd, a "compact sized" driver who became in a way the Ronnie Sox of the '70s. In one of the car rags another full figured racer complained about them bringing in a river rat to drive, because they got a competitive advantage from the lower weight. Are ya really up to 135 :D

I agree. Great numbers on the dyno, but there are better ways to prove a trucks HP than a roller.

Isn't the dyno the best way to compare the rwhp output of two trucks under the same conditions to determine which truck has the most hp to the rear wheels (at that event)? I would think drag racing would add in to many variables to give an accurate comparison of which truck really puts the most hp to the ground? Now drag racing might be more fun and tell you who knows how to drive their truck faster in the 1/4 mile. It might also tell you who has their truck set-up correctly for the race conditions, but I would think the dyno tells you more about the trucks power output. JMHO

But I still want to know if/when Joe gets the bodywork fixed how much more HP is that good for? Joe, great event had fun and was able to up my HP 30+ this year. A whooping 283 RWHP still in the tiny leagues, 350 will be my max. Maybe I'll win the lowest HP race:D
