The Banks high ram actually drops your hp, there have been more than a couple of posts with dyno results about this.

So, is there an intake that shows a benefit? When I went my route I was basically looking for the best solution. Now that I know more about my truck (no glow or spark plugs had me confused for a while), I would have gone a different route from the start, in the interest of upgrading. However, now I am looking to go Edge Juice Attitude, injectors etc. figuring that at least I have the air flow improvements. Anyone? (yea, I know I am asking to get stomped)

My big hoss is 140hp allegedly, don't really care, going to toss it anyhow. Yes it taps pump wire, and they asked if I wanted the 160... wo apparently 140 is not the largest.

On the plus side for most of the people here I convinced a buddy of mine to go Edge route rather than Banks.

Well, I want to thank all you guys for your input, it certainly was worth the time to construct the thread, and I learned a lot.

Based on the input, I think I'll can the Banks stuff, move up to the Edge Juice, as I contacted Edge and they will allow me to upgrade from the EZ at 50% off.

I think I'll buy a set of the DD Stage 1 or 2 injectors. From previous conversations with DD, their Stage 1 is the same hole size, but they polish and shape the interior to produce a much finer mist that supposedly gains around 30 hp through more efficient combustion. But I'll contact them again to get their $0. 02 worth before I make a decision on which Stage to buy.

The Banks turbo shell change actually made sense to me, though, it sounded pretty good. What do you guys think? Is there a similar alternative?

BTW, that whole Banks setup is quoted at $1700. 00.

Regards,

Robert

Robert, I think you made a wise choice. Anyone that tries to sell you one of the high ram intake horns for any gain is full of bs in my opinion. I like some of them (ATS or the new AFE) for cosmetic reasons, and I may someday buy one. A nice set of injectors (F-1, or DDP) will do you good. Good luck!!

Bye the way, I just bought your beads and will be giving them a try. The tires I am running now have another brand and I've had nothing but great luck for over 50K miles.

The AFe is supposed to, and the ATS, can't say about any of the others, but it is a marginal gain for the cost.

A couple of guys have suggested an increase in Turbo size, and after I read a little on the DD site, I see it drops your EGT's quite a bit when you do this, and that's a concern for me as well, especially when pulling a good-sized load with my 3:55 rear end.
I do notice that my truck runs best when it's around the 2000-2100 rpm range, but that equates to about 74 - 76 mph, which may be too fast when pulling a 5th wheel.
The whole goal for me is to select a few components that will not only give me the power I need, but will also keep the temps in range while pulling up a grade, otherwise what's the point? I have noticed in the replies that it's equally important to select the components that are "matched" and will complement each other, instead of throwing in parts and ending up with smoke, excessive EGT's or some other malady.
I'm going to call DD today and have a chat about the turbo issue and I'll let you know what they advised.
... and on another note, just what do you think it would cost to change over to 4:11's? I know both ends have to be done, and something done with the transmission so the speed reads correct. I'll bet the truck would pull fine with the mods it has now with lower gearing, and it wouldn't put as much strain on the transmission in the process. I thought I saw an ad for some gearing place in the TDR mag somewhere a couple of years ago.

Thanks again,
Robert

Robert,

I checked on having my 3:55's changed to 3:73s last year. I was quoted $500 for the grear set, $250 to do the change if I brought them my rear end, if they pull the rear end another $250 was added. Overall $1000 now I have a two wheel drive, not sure what they would want for a 4wd.

If you can find someone to swap complete axles with, that is the ceapest way to go. You are getting at the heart of why many of us say the 4:10's are the correct towing gears with the auto. This gives you four gears to use. I turn 63 MPH at 2K and that is a confortable speed towing a 12K 5er. I run most freeway hills in OD and mount passes in 3rd. The down side is that you no longer have a bobtail freeway cruiser.

I would do the gear swap, put in small injectors, (275RVs, Jammer 1's, or small F1's) and get an exhaust brake installed, with a smart controller to keep the TC locked. You would then have a good towing truck. I run my Comp untapped in the EZ mode. Gives you in cab control. I have it set at 1x1, 2x2, 3x3,4x4, and 5x5. Main levels do not effect anything untapped, so as I move the main level, I am effecting the sublevels, which vary when stock fueling occurs. 1 delayed, 3 close to stock and 5 sooner than stock. My DD Jammer 1 run very clean. I dyno 283/596 with the HY35, and have more now with the PDR35.

As a lot of people have said, theirs towed really good at this level with the stock HX35, but they continued on down the slippery slope of BOMing. Even Bill at DTT told me this very thing, as they were doing my transmission almost three years ago. SNOKING

I have an email in to Edge Products on this. I see they have a very nice looking set of injectors with smaller orifices, but more of them, to develop a finer mist for more efficient combustion.
They also said that they would allow me to upgrade my EZ to the Comp for about 1/2 price.
On the 4:10's, if I have to go that route, I'll simply buy another truck. This truck has had a lot done to it, and it's in terrific mechanical condition, but there comes a time to stop adding to an older truck, and go buy a new one.

Thanks again for all your help,
Robert

are you running an aftermarket converter? just wondering if the transmission is up to snuff for heavy towing with more power.

Yes, I'm running a Triple-Disc converter with a DTT valve body. The transmission has all HD parts and has been TIG welded for strength.
We decided to go a different route for our business. We're buying a larger Cargo trailer, which we can easily tow with the dually, and also buying a Class C motorhome to go to the shows in good weather. The MH can tow the cargo trailer, so we have a place to stay nearby when we don't stay in a hotel.
We totally canned the 5th wheel idea. But I still want to add the Edge stuff if they think it will work ok.

Thanks again to all for your help. It generated a lot of thought on my part, and I even toyed witha new truck, but now that won't be necessary.
Yesterday I did buy the Vulcan fuel filter to VP-44 hose mod, and the Fuel pump relocation kit from Geno's. On my way...

Thanks,
Robert
