My '95 was built in Fenton, MO. You could peel the paint off with your fingernail. My '04 was built in Saltillo, MX. No problems, so far... ... ... ... ...

Credit where due

Give credit where it is due. I have owned a 96, 98. 5,2001, 2003,2004. 5 that were all made in Mexico. As far as problems the 98. 5 and the 2001 were always in the shop generally for little things which to me are the most annoying. The 2003 I totalled shortly after I got it no comment. The 2004. 5 has given me very little problem but the rear door is misaligned from the factory about 1/4". So I feel that they all have problems. The AC leaks about a can of freon every season, I just replace it myself, I'm not going to waste time to go to the dealer for what I can do in a few minutes.

As far as the assembly plant in Fenton most are correct, they rely on the union to protect their jobs and without any fear of losing that job they do just enough to get by. I know several people that have been there forever all they do all day is sit around and maybe push a broom or take out the trash and make 60 to 70K per year. Then they retire and get a healthy pension and their health insurance paid, nice perks if you can get away with it. I know that there are some people that work hard but I feel they need to cut the "fat" from the payroll and compensate those that do.

My truck was built in St. Louis and it has no rattles, paint flaws or wind noise. Don't know if maybe it got some special treatment since I ordered it at a dealership in St. Louis. Just thought I would chime in and say that St. Louis trucks can have excellent quality as well.

I'm sure that St. Louis will produce good truck now and then as well as Mexico producing a bad one now and then. I just have never heard of Mexico putting out a bad one so far.
