RVers Beware

Trade-Ins Not Paid Off By Dealers

I posted the following on RV and have gotten maybe two good comments/advice and a whole bunch of useless jokes and rhetorical...

I should have just posted on the TDR only...

OK, I have winterized the 5er and have it in storage at an indoor storage facility about 5 miles from home.

I have been doing this since Winter 2005, however during storage last winter (when I brought it home in May), I had mouse droppings in the RV.

I cleaned the entire RV from top to bottom and found every hole to the outside and sealed them up with expanding foam and duct tape as well as those plastic round hole covers. Found lots of holes...

This winter before storage I put Bounce Fabric softener sheets everywhere. I must have used 50 sheets... I even put some under the tires and landing gear.

I also double and triple checked that all food was removed from the RV.

The storage facility assured they have traps now...

Any other ideas that have worked for you??

Thanks,

Louis

Moth Ball's have worked around the house outside for me might try some ?If they wanna get in I don't think there is anything that stop's the little critter's

Louis, I'd use a few wedge boxes of d-CON mice bate inside. Maybe a few boxes outside as well. They work in my barn.

In an article a few years ago in Successful Farming mag, a farmer's solution for mice getting in his grain combines' wiring over the winter was to use something like maybe roll flashing metal to make a 15" or so barrier/fence around his machines. They were inside on concrete. Mark

When I bought my 5er a couple of years ago the dealer recommend using Irish Spring soap bars. This dealer is a small RV dealer in northern IL and also has outside storage for his customers RV's on his lot.

I have used Irish Spring soap from day one in my 5er and have never had any mice problems (knock on wood). I use about 12 new bars each year place in the living space of the 5er, the left over bars from last year are placed in the basement storage of the 5er. This seams to work.

The only problem I have is now, is I can not stand the smell of Irish spring soap.

I also do a through job of cleaning the 5er before storage and remove all of the food along with the cooking utensil from the camper for winter storage.

I use a conbination of Irish Spring soap, scented dryer sheets and mice bait in the barn. And have some cats roaming the area too looking for a warm meal... .

what ever you do do not put a food based poison or traps with food inside ,this will draw the mice in to get the food. I have had this trouble for years the moth balls dryer sheets and even mint have been things I have used. The best is to remove anything they can eat or nest with, soaps, papers, grease, crumbs. They chew and ruin everything I hate meases to peases. Get a mean feral cat and keep it in your RV.

We have eight cats. This works very well for us. It creates other problems, but those are another story for another time.

Fresh Cab Botanical rodent repellant.

Sounds like you got the bases covered so I offer this advise.

To be honest I live in the country and the best by far product that every farmer in the state uses now "Because it really works well and smells good" is called "Fresh Cab" And it realy works. Dryer sheets in areas they can get in at also work well but do not last as long. Moth balls are a joke and I know of nobody who likes to smell that stuff. Cab Fresh smells like potpori.

Most TSC Tractor supply company stores and other hardware stores carry it around here. I also tape shut all access points That would be inviting for them at the end of the season. I have a 1972 Avion that has sat outside in the country its whole life and have never had a mouse problem by taping and using dryer sheets and Now Fresh Cab botanical rodent repellant.

I don't think it possible to keep them all out but you can make it untollerable for them to want to stay a while. ;)

Good luck

Another thing that works well in tight holes is steel wool, just stuff it in and its easy to remove and no clean up required afterwards.
