It is almost time to get new tires. I have read excellent reviews on the Michelin LTX M/S's, and am thinking about buying a set. They are pretty pricey @ $800 installed for 4, but if they are as good as they seem in the reviews, I am game... .

Any comments/opinions????

I had a set of LTX's on my dually before I bought the present set of ATX's which I like much better. Better traction and stiffer which is better for my needs. More $$$ though.

I have Mich LTX M/S on mine. I replaced the original Mich A/S with a more aggressive tread similar to the Goodyear T/A's but did not like the way it handled. They were the Big O brand but the only tread in load range "E. " I wanted to stay with "E" range tires. The dealer exchanged them for my current ones after complaining. I do about 35% 4WD (snow in winter/ off road in summer) and they suit me just fine. VERY well mannered on road at high speeds. I recommend them but it depends on what you need your tires to do. If you do more off roading or snow driving you might want to consider a more beefy tread. -frank

EDIT: I just noticed that you have 2WD. While the M/S's are more street friendly than most, why not stick strickly to an all season tread?

Actually, the M/S IS more of an all season tread, only a bit more aggressive than the A/S. The LTX A/T is Michelin's most aggressive tread; my truck had a pair of 245 A/Ts on the back of my truck when I bought it. They're presently in the garage and for sale, as I have no need for snow tires.

I like mine and they wear well. At least on the front. I found a place that has good take offs that are about 80/90% tread that cost me $35. 00 each mounted and balanced. Look around for a used tire shop and save a bunch of money.

I picked up a pair of used ones couple yrs ago. They didnt wear worth a crap. had about half tread on them when i got em. backs lasted about 10,000 tops. fronts stretched out to about 15,000.

Michelin LTX M/S

I like Michelin tires, they ride smooth and provide good tire life. My truck has about 45k on it now, and the OEM LTX M/S's have about 11/32 of tread remaining. I use a 4 tire rotation every 7000 miles. The LTX M/S's seem to be a very good on road tire with good tread life, ride and handling.

I should have said XPS tires. Blame it on 3rd shift.

My truck came stock with the michelin ltx m/s's. They lasted me 62k. They would have lasted another 20k at least if I had not run them underinflated as well as gotten off my rear and had an alignment done based on the wear pattern and tread left (at least where there was tread left). I did not like the way they worked in the snow or offroad at all otherwise I would have repalced them with another set. I loved the LtX AT's on my 96 gas truck, quiet, great wear and good in snow and off road but unfortunately they don't seem to make the AT in a 265 load e only a 245/e. So I went with Bridgestone Dueler Revo's. They have been great tires. They need to be replaced soon but do have 58k on them so I may get those again.

great tire !!! i put 6 on my dually back in the spring. 235/85r/16 10 ply LTX M/S.

check around on cost. i had 6 installed for $990. tax included

Went 115000 mi. on the set that came on the truck new, have 130000 mi. on the 2nd set and am planning to go for third set pretty soon. 'nuf said.....

I put a set of Michelin LTX M/S tires on my wife's Durango. Excellent tires! They ride and handle great and, so far at least, are not showing any abnormal wear.

I just got 4 LTX M/S and so far I like them. I got them from NTB with a $50 rebate Total cost $628 including everything - installation, stems, lifetime balance, road hazzard, taxes, etc.

I have them on my 2500. When I first got them, because I pull a large Fifth Wheel, I put the tire pressure at maximum, or 80 lbs. I soon figured out that was too much considering the strength of the sidwalls; my truck wandered all over the road, especially pulling the trailer. I experimented with lower pressure and ended up at about 65 lbs. This gave me a good foot print on the road and the sidewalls just barely bulge. Now, the truck runs true.

These are great tires, and they wear very well.

Just remember to avoid running too much air. In this case, more is not better.

Well, I thought the Mich. LTX M/S tires that came on my 01 were a lousy tire. Wore out in 30,000 miles and provided ZERO traction. I wouldn't put another set on my truck if they were free. I live in a snowy climate and can actually use some traction in the winter. I'm running BF Goodrich A/T's now and there's absolutely no comparison, they're an awesome tire. I'm ready for another set right now and there's no doubt in my mind that it will be another set of BF Goodrich. Might even try the mud treads this time.

I used to run BFG A/Ts on our company Dodge Ramchargers back in the '80s. The oil field roads thru the Rocky Mountain region rarely ever see a road maintainer and the BFG traction was well appreciated, especially in the monsoon season and deep snow.

Another happy Michelin owner. Truck came with LTX M/S 245/75/16's. At 65,000 miles they have plenty of meat left... . another 25K perhaps. Expensive, but quality is always expensive.

Very nice tires, they came stock on my last three new CTD Dodge trucks. I have never been big fan of rotating tires.

But when you figure $17. 50 for the rotation every 7,000 miles compared to just leaving them on the back of the truck. The rotation works out to be a very sound investment.

Though they do seem to disapear if you like to pour on the coals. Or drive on gravel. As heavy as our trucks are, mine dislikes even wet grass and or sugar sand. Let alone driving in any kind of snow.

New Cub Cadet Lawn Mower Kawasaki power big tires in back >>> WOW 6 speeds.

I need a tire that's good on the highway - dry and WET. Lotsa heavy monsoon summer rains where we live. Almost never tow and never offroad. How do the LTXs stack up to those criteria?

Current tires are BFG AT/KOs w/ 55k and probably 15-20k left. One has been out of round for 20k miles - vibrates at 45 mph. Other than that they've been good tires - just don't care for the "agressive" look anymore and have no more need for snow or offroad.

FWIW, I put Michelin Cross Terrains on our van - a little noisy but otherwise excellent tires. Handles great dry and sticks like glue in the wet. After 15k they still look like new treads.

RT66DOC,

I put a set of 238/85r16E Michelin LTX A/S's on a Suburban with great success. They rode smooth, handled well and were an excellent rain tire. After driving them for 30 - 40k I was tired of the Sub and sold it, there was plenty of tread remaining.

I'm in Northern Ca, it does rain here in the winter...
