Any Ram guys in SE Florida?

Good Dodge Mechanic in N. Alabama?

How would a feller become one of the elite group as the Mid-TN chapter? I would be so humbly obliged to be considered the same as many of the great that grace the pages of this wonderful TDR. There is the ALMIGHTY Piston Slapper (which i'm sure like everyone else here... is my hero!), the party dude of Underwood Square Tires with the bra specials, the craziest CrazyGator, our fearless leaders WadePatton and AndyMan, and of course the smokindieseldork! WOW! I get choked up just listing some of the names. I couldn't even list out everyone due to time contraints, but to be associated with gods as these... life long dream!

If anyone of you could be ever so gracious to let me in this great organization, it would then be time for me to go to Disney World. I, Cory, would like to nominate myself to be appointed into the Mid-Tenn Chapter Roundtable. Thank you for your consideration. :-laf

I'm startin' to wonder about all this hype. He pooted in the truck today and it smelled quite foul. He even classified it as a "little poot". It was disgusting. I tried to laugh, but couldn't for the choking.

Sorry, I've gotten behind on the posts...

Well, I'm "under the truck" for a few days. Wife's Red one crapped the 4500 yesterday. Supposed to be a "new reman"-- never did shift right. So I'm pulling it tonight. Then tomorrow I get to put a lift pump, starter, and four tires on the Blue one and drive it into the shop AND pull that one. Yep, that's the one that WAS going into my Greenie.

Anybody want to come out and help a bit is welcome to. I'll be gone in the morning to get the starter rebuilt and tires mounted for the blue one. Might finish up on Saturday. Don't know if I can find my clutch alignment tool...

Welcome to the new folks.

Come use my shop if you need to Steve. Will be lit and heated.

Nebbermind. I'm sick. Weak and funky... going to bed. :(

Hey BLING-N-SMOKE, thought I'd say hay... . So hay, good to see you on the TDR. I wanted to let yall know that Beech Bend Raceway is going to open the gate Mar. 4th @ 12:00 till 5:00. Just wanted to let anyone that wants to smoke up the 1/4 mile know about it. They tell you the 60, 330, 660, 1,000, 1,320 FT. times. They also tell you the 1/8 and 1/4 MPH. It's a great track, just dont know if anyone wants to go. I found out today it was going down, I just wanted to post it as soon as I could so people could try to plan for it. It's about 35 miles from the state line to the track. . I know a few diesel trucks that are planning on going. It will be fun if the weather lets us play.

Beach Bend... I'm In! Been wanting to run the abomination and see how she fares. 1/8 is prolly all I'm good for though. Pyro needle'll be burried well before then. :D

If'n I can figger out what's wrong with it now  . Went to fuel it tonight and "act a fool" and the GEN light came on. This was after having to jump start it because the BRAND NEW batteries were dead.

well, whatever... if it keeps breaking, I'll keep learning.

Is the tach working? or is the tach slow to react? I'd look for wires that have come loose off of the Alternator or it can also be that the RPM pickup on the harmonic balancer is failed or moved too far away. Truck won't charge if this is happening. But your tach won't work or will be slow/behind.

Tach seems to be okay. Ran it up to about 3200 in 2nd gear before it defueled, so I'm certain that it's working normally. I read a bit last night about the ECM being "partially" bad. i. e. Tach works, but batts won't charge. Volt meter hangs around 14v when running.

Honestly, I think the batts charge, I think something is draining them. I say this cause when I got home, shut it down, went inside researched, and went back out it fired right up (20 min time lapse).

I got a few ideas of things to check come tomorrow when I've got some daylight to fiddle with it.

Thanks Nick. I may have to take you up on that. Whadda ya want for it?

The dang thing is weird.

It fired right up this afternoon, so I KNOW the generator is charging the batts (although possibly improperly). Just like yesterday, the GEN light didn't come on until I got to the truckstop (2. 2 miles from the house + 5 minutes warm up idle). Again also the tach keeps right up, not sluggish or dead.

I checked the DTC's via the key on-off-on-off-on deal, and came up with a code 47.
Factory Service Manual said:
FSM says code 47 is: "Charging System Voltage Too Low". The description of that error code is: "Battery voltage sense input below target charging during engine operation. Also, no significant change detected in battery voltage during active test of generator output.

The above quote from the FSM also has a footnote stating that should this condition exist, the Check Engine Lamp would be lit... well... that's not the case. No check engine light.

With the pedal anywhere above idle, the voltmeter sits above 14. At idle (for more than a few seconds), the meter drops to around 9.

I'm going to do some testing tomorrow as per the FSM charging system troubleshooting guidelines. Anybody got any thoughts pass 'em my way.

Other items that most likely aren't related, but I will mention just in case are:

1. intermittent ABS light on/off.

2. 4wd won't engage. Light comes on, and will lock in low, but front tires never get engaged.

3. Cruise Control works just fine.

Thanks.

andy, i'll check on what that pcm is worth. 4wd problem is either the vaccuum lines or the vaccuum motor on the passenger side of the front axle. there are also some plastic clips that fit over the shifting fork of the vaccuum motor that could be causing that problem. have you had the alternator checked? you might check your brake fluid. if its near min the abs light coul come on and go off sometimes

Andy just tried your cell, its turned off. Trust me I can give you SEVERAL notes on where to look for vacuum probs with the 4wd. #@$%! Give me a call as soon as you read this. ;)

My truck goes in the shop Monday morning for a heater core, and probably a vaccuum pump & hell a power steering pump to if I have to replace the v-pump. They are connected and I'm approaching 200K so I might as well while its happening. The anti-freeze smell is so bad in my truck now that I can barely stand to drive it for 10-20 minutes. #@$%!

Hello tax return... ... . bye bye tax return. :{

Andy,

Check out this thread:

I have a friend with a '95 auto going through the same thing.

Mark,

Can you not rebuild your VacP? I put seals in mine @80K ago and haven't had any problems. A "new" VacP will run you close to $800. A friend of mine bought a used one from the fella I bought my transmission from in MO for $115 and put seals in it. I've never heard of anybody having to replace a PS pump. I'm at 224K and no problems. I just wouldn't spend the money if you don't have to.

You can just rebuild them? I didn't know that? Where did you get the rebuild kit from?

I may be wrong Mark but from what I understand the oil seals go out and leak oil. That is what I did to mine. Will this fix yours? I don't know. This is the only problem I have heard of out of the VacP. There are several places to get the seals.

Update.

Robert Tucker and myself done pulled that 4500 down and found some extry pieces of metal squeezed between the extension housing and gears. When I find out who "rebuilt" it, I will let yall know. They funked up when they built this one.

Throwing it back together now. Snowing like a mofo out here. :p
