Htb2 62/14 For Sale!

Hey guys - I've decided to try a bigger charger to see if that will fix my high EGTs so I need to sell my HTB2 to make up some of the costs of the new one.

A few of you know that HTT sent me a brand new 62/14 back in February, and I have put less than 1,000 miles on the turbo since then. The exhaust housing really hasn't even started to turn yet.

The turbo spools really quick and drives excellent but I think that it is slightly undersized for my power level.

I'm going to list it in the classifieds for $1300 shipped. I need to try to get that much to be able to comfortably pay for the new one.

Staff Change Announcement.

Hey Fellas,

Well, as I haven't owned a CTD for a while, haven't found a replacement, not sure when I will, subscription expiring, etc... . I think it's time I stepped down as VP of the group. I'll still be a faithful member, but it's time for a CTD owner to pull my duty.

Good luck with it all. I'll still be around if'n ya need me.

:)

Andy - I hate to see you go. In my opinion, you've done more than anyone as far as organizing meetings and doing aggravating things like getting our shirts done (twice) - I wish you would reconsider. You've put in a lot of effort in bringing our group together, and I don't think you should have to step down just because you haven't found another truck yet.

Just my two cents - think on it.

Need a few suggestions

Help!! I thought I would try this thread because of the localized info available.

I am in need of a good diesel shop in our area. I am specifically in Joelton, exit 31 off I-24. My truck is throwing a couple of 216 codes. On hot afternoons 90 degrees + I lose about 1/2 to 2/3 power from the engine. I do not get any smoke. The engine never dies. It runs fine after it cools off. On cooler days 70's to 80's, it operates normally. Truck is a 98. 5 Auto QB LB with 191000. About 60K on the last VP replaced by Diesel Power in Nashville.

The weird thing is that my fuel pressure gauge fluctuates from about 5 psi to 25 psi during these power issues. The fluctuations grow gradually and start at about a 5 psi swing (swing on the ISSPRO gauge- back and forth very quickly) and works it way up to the 20 psi fluctuation swing. I have a FASS system and the pressure normally stays steady at about 14-15 psi.

I probably need to do some diagnostics before just replacing the VP. Please let me know your suggestions - including a good repair facility. I have used Diesel Power in the past. Thanks in Advance.

I'm down the road from you in Pleasant View (exit 24). I'm by NO means a 24v guru, but here's what I could immediately dig up.

P0216 (M) Fuel Injection Pump Timing Failure High fuel supply restriction, low fuel pressure or possible wrong or incorrectly installed pump keyway.

The only dealings I've had with a diesel shop in Nashville is Diesel Sales and Service (also known as ProDiesel) over on Fesslers lane. They're one step up from baboons the best I can tell.

There's another injection shop a couple of miles away off Murfreesboro road. Some side street I can't remember. They had good prices and seemed to be reasonably intelligent (although they wouldn't turn my p-pump up past specs).

But anyway, It doesnt' sound like a VP problem to me since your fuel pressure is up and down. I would assume that you are getting a reading after the FASS, and before the VP. I'd say it's likely that your FASS is acting up moreso than the VP acting up.

... and if you don't want to fool with it or need a pro to look it over, do like Nick said, call Meacham. He and Corn will whip it into shape quick. They're on Tennessee Blvd in Lebanon.

CLW100,

It's your typical VP44 electronics failing. You gonna need a new VP44.

Where you pulling your fuel pressure reading from? Probably the injector pump causing your pressure swings while it's acting stupid(electronics failing) if you are pulling the pressure reading off the VP44 fuel inlet.

Joe Underwood @ Underwood Tire in Dickson, TN (446-3393) or Meacham Evans at Cedar City Diesel in lebanon, TN. Both are great guys, good mechanics and local members here with the fellow dorks.

Good call Gap. I didn't think about the electronic aspect of it. Seems to me though that a properly operating FASS would always supply an exact ammount of fuel pressure.

But then again, I don't know much about VP's.

Ya, call Joesup too!

Thanks for info

I have the fp gauge about 1 foot before the 1/2" (yes 1/2") hose goes into the VP. I am afraid it is the VP electronics also. I am going to get with the Cedar Diesel and see what they can do.

Andyman, I am new to this forum but (not the TDR), it is nice to know you are about 5 miles from me. Sorry you have decided to step down. I own the rental store and pool store on 41A close to New Hope.

Thanks for the help.

WELL THAT JUST BITES :p

Your decision, but I'm sure everyone on here would want you to reconsider.

Maybe one of our blessed multi-CTD owners could give you a loaner :-laf

Well, thanks guys! It makes me feel good that you want me to stay with it. Much as I'd love to, it's time to let someone else have a go at it. If I were pretty sure I'd be picking up another rig anytime soon, I'd feel okay about it.

No worries. I'll still be around. :)

Yeah man! Drive by there every day to and from work. I get better fuel economy on 41A than I do on I-24. About once a week I say to myself "I need to drop off an issue of TDR to that guy". I just haven't done it. I'll stop by in the next couple of days and say hi. I'll be in a White Honda Accord by the way. I need to see about renting a pressure washer anyway. :)

Joe & Meacham are absolute great stand up guys... ..... but I'd also like to throw in a plug for Taylor Diesel on Elm Hill Pike if Nashville is a bit closer to you. Go in and ask for Aaron Horton to take care of ya that's my fiance's cousin! ;)

clw1100, The power loss, dead pedal, and the Death code 0216 are sign's of the VP44 going south. The fuel pressure thing is weird though.

Andy, I hate to see ya go!

I hereby nominate PISTON SLAPPER for Vice Presidency!! See him LIVE at Underwood tire this Saturday campaigning!! Kissing baby's and scaring Mothers! :-laf :-laf :-laf :-laf :-laf
