Good Dodge Mechanic in N. Alabama?

2007 G56

Mid-TN Gang, and Wade,

G56 FYI.

You will not believe how fast we put the G56 back in, it was amazing, from raising it up on the jack, to that magic "thunk" sound that a trans makes when it hits home, less than 1 minute and ALL of it captured in video with no cuts.

Now, this would be a BS tale if it was not for the fact that the G56 uses a system that is just like installing an automatic (sorry for swearing) the semi-modular DMF, disc and cover goes (bolted up as an assembly) on the input shaft FIRST then installed, then bolts up to the flex plate. We got our dimensions and I have a good idea what it takes to make a G56 solid FW based conversion system, time to put it in the CAD software and make it happen. Also mo more fighting the old wedge style X-member.

Yeah, gotta have the solid FW... some day. Unfortunately I will be dealing with the old fashioned cross member. Stuck in the 90's. :p

WHATCHIT Steve, Hans will be after that there long and tall shifter stick! :-laf

Let's go watch a smokeless pull... well at least it's all diesel... 'cept for the akkyhol part. Yeah, I'll have a 4. 5% akkyhol and hops meself. :p

No envy here! I just had another one made out of 1" hex rod. ;) Did I mention it's about 5-6 inches longer than the other one? :D

This one's aluminum so I'll have to get it chromed. I don't have any pics yet, but I may try to get some up before I take it to have it plated.

Hello Mid-Tenn Roundtable

I am new member from northeast TN, Johnson City area. I bought my first diesel in June 06. I have always been a Chevy man in the past, my last truck was Chevy 1/2 ton with 4. 8 liter gas. When I went shopping for diesel I felt that it was an entirely different animal and any brand loyalty did not apply. After much reading I decided I wanted a Cummins engine and it came wrapped in a Dodge so that is what I got. So far I really like the truck. Only problem so far is passenger side front power window sometimes won't work. So far problem has not been diagnosed. The only thing I don't like about the truck is the tires appear to little for it. I am thinking of replacing the 265 tire that came factory with 285s. Until I joined TDR all my diesel info came from Carson Dodge forum. Some people say that the 285s will hurt performance and mileage a lot, others say the difference will hardly be noticable at all. Anyone have any thoughts on this? The truck is stock automatic, 3. 73 gears. No mods. I don't tow much, when I do it is 800 pound lawnmower on 4X6 trailer. Don't think that will strain this truck at all. :)

Welcome Larry!

Your story's almost the same as mine. Don't tell anybody, but I'm still a GM man at heart. ;) I had a '91 GMC, 4. 3 V6 5speed, that I put 300K miles on before I bought my Dodge. I told my wife I wanted something that would be at least as good as the GMC and the only thing I thought might get me there was the Dodge/Cummins. Then the bommbing bug bit. So hang on, it'll be a fun ride!

Scott

Welcome, Come on over to our meeting next Saturday. I don't think moving up one size is going to hurt at all.

Joe this is your area, what's your thoughts.

Welcome Larry,

It's always good to gain new members. You're right, they do look too small, but I got 101,400 miles out of the Michelins that came on mine... so I went back with 'em this time (thanks Joe).

---Going to work this morning--interstate-- the truck would bog down when I would try to accelerate. I was hoping for a clogged filter, so I drained and replaced... no go. Lift pump DOA @ 107,000mi.

  • No warranty
  • Saturday at 5:30pm
  • None available in stores, Dealer relocation to inside tank
  • Time for an "upgrade"

uh-oh sorry to hear about the lift pump, is injection pump OK? Hope so. I may end up staying with the 265 tires, wish michelin made an A/t in this size. I may add the full wheel well liners to the back to see if it helps the looks any. And I also noticed some fender flares on the power wagon versions that I think might look good on mine also. Good luck on the lift pump.

Larry

Thanks to Joe and the Mid-Tenn gang for another great get-together, and i wanted to stop the rumors about the door prizes being rigged. I only had to give Joe half of those tools for drawing my number. :-laf :-laf Randy

ok, but let me tell ya, "shes fast"

I went to Lebanon to see the Capn' today... They had the beast in the shop prepping it for the 150lb turbo that's going in it. Meacham had that W-I-L-D look in his eyes.

It's going to be a fun year.

he is going to have to do a lot of prepping if he wants to hang with "the beast killer" :--)

Hope the injectors improved things Andy. The beast will take on all comers, except maybe the Dickson truck that everyone says is so fast.

OH MAN!! She's strong. Everything but the lift pump is happy. 3/4 throttle, 2 seconds, 0psi. LOL. I can control the smoke okay with the 6spd, but they'll still put a frown on the faces behind me.

I'm gonna have to put a FASS in if they stay in the motor. :(
