Any Ram guys in SE Florida?

Good Dodge Mechanic in N. Alabama?

Been trying to call Red all week to see what direction he wants to go in for the rebuild. He just called, gave me the plastic digits, said "Get whatever ya'll want. I'm busy, bye. "

SWEET! :D

SWEET! indeed!

IMHO you only need 2 #'s. The one in my sig for a NASTY HX55 turbo, and Scheid's for all the internals! :-laf

Oh sorry the first one doesn't take plastic! ;) :-laf

#1 I thought y'all gerenaded (sp?) the turbo on the dyno?

#2 yeah DEFINATLEY do a full Goerend transmission! You will save quite a bit of money! Definately do EDM's, and I would do a selectable (read ARB air) locker for the front end you don't want to drive a locked front end ALL the time.

Unless your doing any towing.

I went that route to save money in the 97 dump and its not the most towing friendly transmission, especially when you compare to the full DTT in my other truck. I wish I had saved money and gone DTT now... . but thats my opinion.

I guess I am just not happy with its performance when towing. Feels like a lot of slipping when coming off the line. Its wierd trying to go up hill from a dead stop, makes you wonder if its gonna get going... . hahaha

Maybe I got a stall convertor instead..... LOL!

Wallace,

I don't understand? You went what route to save money? You got a Goerand transmission in your tow truck? Joe has one in his truck and he tows 24,000lbs and it pulls it sweet. It'll idle off with it :D

The only difference I can tell between Joe's Goerand and Garricks DTT is the shifting. Garricks DTT shifts harder and a little faster. Goerand purposely smooth shifts(signifiganly smoother than stock) You pretty much have to watch the Tach to see it shift. Goerands supposedly won't break shafts. He started building TCs by request of an Auto Puller(600ishHP) with a DTT transmission w/out billet shafts who had broken three inputs shafts in 6 pulls. He just wanted a solution. Dave Goerand said he'd try. He hasn't broken one since with the Goerand. Not saying one is better than the other, just different. Goerand said he dyno'd both TC's on his ATI machine doing 0-60mph runs, measuring the times and hp achieved through the run and they where both withing 1mph of each other during this X amount of time. One being faster than the other during different parts of the run. DTT would be faster lower and his would be faster towards the end. Who's splitting hairs... :D

For example. 0-100mph in 10 seconds. One TC would do 51mph on the first 5 seconds and 49mph on the last 5 seconds. The other TC would be 49mph and 51mph. I still don't understand how Goerand addresses "cross leaks" or internal leakage that DTT says is the killer of these transmissions.

Whatever it is, sounds like your TC is too loose and it's slipping(rpms rising, but truck aint' accelerating) or it's too tight, preventing the turbo from spooling and the motor is lugging out. Joe's does lug more than stock from a standing start under hard acceleration due to the tightness of the convertor, until the turbo lights. I don't think it is actually slower, you just feel the motor lugging. It's all about perception. The dream would be a tight/tighter convertor. Be tighter than stock while being loose enough to light the turbo then tighten up after it lights so it won't slip, build heat and cause damage. This is what Dave Goerand built for the truck puller mentioned above. This is prolly what we gonna put in Ol Smokey too.

Got Smoke,

We did, but we replaced it. HX50/55 hybrid, ball bearing'd, laser balanced, housing honed(or whatever you call it) and polished. $3k turbo! It'll light hard at 8lbs and jump to 65ish lbs. Streetable, and flows massive air. We replaced it with what was on there, just spruced up a little more.

Enough rambling... ya'll done got me all excited Oo.

if the g. bros. transmission is not right. send it back. that is what Garrick did when his DTT was messing up. that is part of what i paid for, (100,000 mile warranty from the g. man) i know enough about auto. trans. to say this " i dont know any thing about em " some work and some dont. Garrick has one that works good and i've got one that works good. gap has one that works good too (stock) i dont understand that eather

I hate to hear about troubles with any of them. GOOD LUCK TO ALL

JOE

I think you need to call Dave Goerend and have a very detailed conversation with him.

Well, with my name in here so much I want to talk. . LOL ... ... . joking..... Here is my take on the trans stuff..... I look at joes' trans. and my trans.

both are a very good trans. I seen that joes is effecient, I watched his mph at the end of his 1/8 mile run..... that told me how his converter was acting. .

The reason it shifts so smooth is to keep from breaking parts. . everyone knows that. . My trans, it shifts hard if you want it to, but you can control it by throttle position. It will not shift smooth (stock like). The reason it doesnt, is heat. Heat kills them, My truck on a 90 deg. day runs 160 deg. pulling a 9,400 lb. miniexcavator and a 28' gooseneck. That is as heavy as it has been loaded, and I have stopped and braked torqued it to show out quite a few times, temp doesnt get over that. on a 70 deg day it run about 110 ... . first mark on the gauge... . I am glad I bought my trans, I have had one problem. The output speed sensor went crazy, I had a warranty, and chips trans. fixed it right up... . I guess it's different strokes for different folks... but joes is a good trans... . and meachems ATS is good one..... I love my DTT. . I just got a 96 long bed ex cab..... When it needs a trans. It's getting a DTT... ... . It's all good as long as you get a warranty as far as I think... ... Correction... ... . I was just told different, My wife and I now have a 96 4x4 ex cab long bed that she drives..... I have already been told it's got to be faster than it is now, and needs smoke... ... Going in the morning to put the timing on 16* and, I have a 10 plate and gov. springs on the way..... I have talked her into stacks, but she wants it to smoke before I can put stacks on it... ... Got to love it... ... ... I know I do... ...

What?, my Suncoast doesn't get honorable mention? :p It's good too. I just don't like autos--MOF I hate 'em. Except for a dedicated race/pull truck, I won't have another.

Mine won't do stacks (on hers), but she wants smoke. :D

So now for the big news.

The green truck got smashed yesterday just before dark. Dumb chick going 90mph to work tried to pass me on the right as I was making a wide right turn-with tractor in tow. She hit truck and put truck/trailer/tractor all in the ditch.

Drove the tractor off trailer, pulled trailer out. Drove truck up outta ditch. Pulled trailer home, Drove tractor home. Steering wheel is 180 out. Cruise is right on top, but the speedo/tach are hard to see.

So I might be in the market again. Maybe a flatbed this time.

Wonder if her insurance will pay for:

Scotty2

B1-2

913 pump

370's

GSK

AFC spring kit

#8 plate

timing

Suncoast transmission

traction bars

stacks

gauges

A prize package worth!(calculating)--$9,000 msrp. Let that be a lesson to yall, DON'T add it up.

Glad I didn't pay msrp for nearly any of it.

So looks like I might have two trucks to start out my salvage yard.

Oh and it was the first time towing with the big pump. I cruised up the Manchester hill in 3rd locked, 60mph, 28-30# boost, 1150 pyro. SINGING through the stacks! I was proud of the little truck.

Okay I'm going shopping now. 1998 maybe. Yeah, a newer truck. ;)

It's Friday, watch out.

OH yeah. I need to borrow a trailer big enough to tote a 2500. I think it'll drive on. No gooseneck--don't have the hitch. To pick up sister's truck in 'boro. Haul to shop.

And nebbermind the trailer. I'll pay Barry to hook it tomorrow.

I's gonna drive it onto a trailer, but there's a bent fan blade and no water and the receiver hitch is dragging the ground--on the blue one that is.

And some chick might run me over with it on the trailer --and there we go again.

Glad that your ok Wade, as for the truck is doesn't look that bad but @ 90MPH :eek: I'm guessing there is probably frame damage. :{

Go buy you a stick truck..... I'll take that Suncoast! :-laf
