Dammm Wade, your family is rough on CTDs. Just kidding, glad you are okay. Hate to see all that work and effort that you put into it to go to waste... ..... J
Might be worth your time to go to a lot in downtown Smithville..... One lot had 5 CTDs sitting there at the first of July. At least 3 flat beds and a couple of them already have stacks
Dunno what the ins co thinks about it. KBB retail is $12k. "Total" happens at 75% So that's $9000. Body shop gets about $250 for every screw they turn and $500 per ounce of paint. So it'll be close.
If it is parted out. The only Performance parts not reused or kept by me will be the gauges and the transmission. But I may hang onto the transmission in case my sister gets an auto--wait that'd be an RE. Can you run a RH in a RE truck? She's looking for a 98/12v.
Congrats on the pull Mark.
I've never pulled on anything BUT a stock turbo(14housing)!
Try Taylor Diesel on Elm Hill Pike. I don't have any idea about prices but they had a shelf full of them last time I was in there. They seem like good people.
AHire, hit the 2nd Lebanon Exit (Lebanon/Watertown), head north (exit loops back under the interstate), and hang a right hander on Tennessee Blvd. Go about a mile. Can't miss it.
Scott. 950*? That seems kinda low. Did you put your probe post-turbo? Maybe you just haven't hit a good strong hill yet.
She's pre-turbo. It will hit 950 pretty easy but just doesn't seem to want to go further. Regular cruisin' stays right at 600*. Remember now, my truck is stock except for the 215's. Maybe the BHAF and the straight pipe help. I took her out last night when I got done. I went down to the Old Hickory Blvd exit on 24. The west-bound on ramp there is a pretty good hill and I can stay on it all the way through fifth. It would not go past 950*. The 30 psi boost really surprised me. I figured I'd max out at around 23-24. Now for a little plate whittlin' :-laf
That's awesome. I could hit 1200 stock running wide open up that big hill on I-24 towards pleasant view from Old Hick Blvd. After the fueling box, it would flirt with 1400 on a dead run from exit 24 off ramp to pleasant view side of overpass!! We've got different motors, so I shouldn't be so suprised.
Hey guys - I may have run into a somewhat serious problem the other day. I was servicing the truck and decided to take the Scotty II out and look at it and the turbo. I pulled that new UNI foam filter out and the thing was pretty much black and there was a bunch of caked-up oily blow-by looking mess all in the bottom of that filter housing.
Now for the really bad part - took the hose off the front of the turbo and there was what I considered to be a good bit of oil settled at the bottom of the turbo, just in front of the compressor wheel. It was where the silencer ring once was. Everything was a little black inside there and all I knew to do was clean it up the best I could and I also cleaned and lightly re-oiled the Scotty filter.
You think I've got turbo problems or was that UNI filter just way over-oiled from the manufacturer? I haven't been checking it the way I should have and I've probably had that filter for 15,000 - 20,000 miles.
Is there anything I need to look for? Check to see if any oil had made it to the intercooler? I thought that the turbo might be leaking some oil but I couldn't figure out how it would be in the front of the wheel like that. It seemed like it was pulling it from the filter - it was really oily in that housing.
What should I do? I'm planning on a turbo upgrade in the future but don't have the funds so now's not a good time. Oh yeah, it's still putting out the 32 pounds of boost like it's supposed to so I don't know what to think.
Its the filter, very common problem, the turbo is fine. Usually when the turbo leaks, you'll know it This is exactly a reason why I do not like oiled filters. They make a mess! I think they only need the "oil" cause they can't filter good without it. They make the holes bigger to flow more air, then makle it sticky to trap the dirt. You can't ever get them clean either. Like trying to clean dirt off duct tape. .
Enough soap boxing. The turbo is fine, it is just the oil from you filter.
