Any Ram guys in SE Florida?

Good Dodge Mechanic in N. Alabama?

I've never used a foam filter as a primary (not that there is anything wrong with doing that I don't guess. ). I've used them as pre-filters on ATV's and mowers. My process was usually to clean the filter with TSP, then pour 30wt oil on it inside of a zip lock bag. Squeeze the bag real good to saturate the filter, then remove it from the bag. Next step was to wrap the filter in a pile of paper towels, and squish it pretty good. Soaking up the majority of the execss oil. It will still get dirt caked up all over it. Try the TSP for cleaning. About a teaspoon/gallon of water.

Well it's good to know that I probably don't have any problems. This whole oiled filter thing is starting to bother me too but I really don't think I could give up the Scotty II. I guess that UNI filter must have been WAAAAY over-oiled from the factory. It all came clean and I re-oiled it but I didn't apply a whole lot - not sure if that's good or bad.

Gap - you're right about the filters needing the oil to work right. They won't filter worth crap if they aren't oiled.

I'd like to look into that Powercore filter than Hohn has been researching. It's like an even better BHAF that's supposed to flow 1000 CFM and filters at a 99. 9% efficiency rate. Donaldson is supposed to have something worked out this fall. We'll see...

Does AFE make a ProGuard 7 filter that will fit the ScottyII? I thought they came with AFE's... that may be my imagination.

If you want to keep the ScottyII, I'd call Scotty or send him a PM. See what he has to say on the matter...

Scotty swapped to the UNI foam filter about a year ago. He claimed that they were the stuff. But yes, the AFE is what he used to send with them - but they're oiled too right? :(

I've been meaning to call Scotty but haven't got around to it. Maybe later today.

That's correct, my AFE is oiled with a tinted aerosol spray oil. To me, this one is easier to care for than my foam pre-filters.

Hopefully your hypothesis of coming over-oiled from the factory is correct, and you have forever solved the problem by cleaning and re-oiling.

What's this Truck Worth?

I've got a guy with a black '97 3/4 ton Club Cab 4WD auto that's wanting to sell it. It's got around 161,000 miles on it and looks pretty nice. There are some larger scratches on the left side of the bed. He worked out of the truck so there are probably some other nicks and dings elsewhere.

Any ideas as to what he could get for it? It's completely stock.

Thanks.

Heavy,

Andy had it pretty close. I've had a LOT of experience with oiled foam filters in motorcycles and ATV's.

The foam filters are designed to filter very well and flow lots of air if oiled properly. They are not designed to filter at all without oil. The key is to use the proper oil (no 30wt!). Go to the bike shop and get "Foam filter oil". It is available in spray or pour bottles. I prefer the spray for a better, more uniform initial application. The foam filter oil is very tacky. I would imagine a Cummins would suck 30wt right out of a foam filter. For cleaning I run a sink of warm, soapy water (Dawn works best) and squeeze it under the water till it comes out clean. Air dry and re-oil.

You guys know about Lafayette TN Saturday night right?

'Bout another 20-30 mins from my house. Is looking to be a good turn out. Same crew that handed me my butt in Temple Hill last week as well as the Lebanon crew.

Y'all come out and watch I'm gonna hook again! Oo. :-laf

If ya need directions call my cell 615-478-0708 make sure and leave a message if I don't answer

Nice torch nick! We'll be ready by Clayhills pull, Atwood TN on Aug 26th. Got most of the parts in, blocked cleaned up at 20 over. Still waiting on pistons though.

KBB "retail" on my 95 176,000 is 12,500.

Haven't been on much, computer has been kaput. Can't get network/satellite/BS to work. Get on now and then at 28k--can't look at photos, shop, video, ebay, nothing really.

Mooretown pull #2 is Saturday the 13th. I'm NOT going to be able to make that--as I don't have safety equipment--AND I have a crooked truck.

OH and I checked out the trucks at Smithville. They are 12v flatty AUTO, 24v flatty manual, and 12v stacked copy of my green truck--AUTO. I "need" manual 12v. ;) No idea what years--it was after fishing the other night.

Now Imina get back to working on the motherboard with the MDIG. :D

Stacks are good for 15 feet anytime. :p

Hey ain't yall bidding on that real MONSTER truck on ebay? I bet it'd really pull that sled. He says that it's real good at pulling trailers and has the power to light the tires through 5th gear and that centerforce makes a real heavy dutier clutch... :p

Still fighting computers. This one is on it's 3rd OS install in a week. Finally gave up on it. Now trying to resurrect the 98 machine. Up to 98se. Fighting the freakin' drivers now. dll this and vxd that. whatEVER.

Terry had a good run... ... but came off the line with too low of RPM's IMO.

However he is still running a single disk clutch and pulling on the small 5spd input shaft just about gives him a corniary I think! :p :-laf

I added 1000lbs to the truck and upped the HP just a tad and it got me 20FT over my pull last weekend. I also blocked the suspension, but my wooden blocks spit out somewhere along the way  :--) :-laf Oh well gotta get a new design on those anyways..... Dilbert said they were too small. :-laf

More tricks in the works... ... ... . by the time I hit C-town next month I might be hanging weights! Oo.
