I replaced every fluid in my truck last week with Amsoil (except the rear end which was recently replaced at the dealer). I made 15. 1 MPG last week - the best I have seen from this truck - it was on a partial tank that I only went 350 miles, but 70 miles were pulling my 40ft GN on the highway and the rest were 35 to 60 mile jumps from town to town - truck only. Anyone else seen an increase after going synthetic? Or am I just dreaming? What maintenance intervals are others using with amsoil? - I pull my about 1000 miles most weekends GVW maxed out going, empty coming back at about 16K GVW. Any people out there who have actually had there oil analyzed to prove intervals?

Mileage increase

Yes almost always. I am a Amsoil Dealer and been using it for years. Try to get someone with a 4x4 to change, but first have them mark a spot on the road where they can coast down from 35 mph. mark the spot where they stop. Then change all fluids front, rear, trans and see how much further they go. It all adds up to less friction. TBOB

amsoil

amsoiled the axels about 2 weeks ago-1/2 mpg to date-hard to say-seems a little smoother-maybe just me??-have a case for the motor but i believe im going to wait until i get a bypass --maybe the amsoil dealer can answer this-will the oil last indef with the single filter bypass-i am not goiung to miss the oil changes-its about makin it last and savin $$$ doin it:D :D :D

First off, an increase in fuel mileage should not be a primary issue in switching to AMSOIL synthetic. It is often a nice and welcome windfall, but is not a guarantee. I have switched quiet a few vehicles to AMSOIL and almost all have shown an increase in fuel mileage. The most was on a Mazda RX-7, it picked up 4 mpg, the average increase seems to be more in line with 1-2 mpg. But these are secondary concerns, the major reason to switch is reduced wear, lower temperatures, better oil flow in colder temperatures, reduction in sludge, reduced friction, less oil breakdown. Yes it cost a little more, but it's worth it.

I posted a while back that I changed everything over to Amsoil at 18,000 miles. I'm up to almost 77,000 miles and I haven't changed oil yet. My oil analysis say "No corrective action required. Oil is suitable for continued use. Resample at next regular interval. " I change the full flow at +- 8,000 miles and the bypass at 25,000 miles. I know that a lot of people don't agree with this, but my last truck went 419,000+ miles. The engine was never touched other than adjusting valves and putting a plate in the pump. If you want to change your oil every 6 to 8,000 miles, more power to you. This works for me, I average about 10,000 miles a month. Also makes that "expensive" oil pretty cheap.

I am ready to make a mileage run now that I have bought the amsoil. I want to wait till its cool where I can take off the Radiator fan and see if I cant bust my best of 26. 5MPG.

Who do you have test your oil? I was thinking about using the local Cat dealer - they are only about $11. Who made your front bumper?

Look at the dollars. Not trying to PO anyone.

I look at everything from a business point of veiw. If you calculate $ per mile:

Interval 3000 mile with Delo

oil @ 8. 50/Gal=$. 0085,Standard filter@$8=$. 0027,Labor@$15=. 005 Total = $. 0112/mile

Interval 7500 miles with amsoil oil and filter:

oil with preffered cust discount@$15/Gal=$. 0060,Filter@13. 85=. 0018, Labor@$15=. 0020, Total $. 0078/mile Savings of $83. 20 over 10K miles.

Now for the hard one - Amsoil with bypass filter

Oil changed every 50k@$15/gal = . 0009/mile

Full Flow filter every 8K=@$13. 85=. 0017

Secondary filter BE110 every 25k@$31. 50=. 0013

Oil Analysis to make sure every 8K@$24=. 0030

Total so far=. 0069/mile Saving additional $9. 55 per 10K miles

If you add Labor every 8K to take sample and change filter @ $15 you add a cost of . 0019/mile and you start losing $9. 20 per 10K miles compared to above Amsoil schedule. Don't forget the cost of the Amsoil filter unit $227.

There are many scenarios - feel free to write back or develop your own spread sheet to calc these. Personally I think I will stay with the Amsoil 7500 mile interval for now. I am going to test my oil a few times to see if I can go 10k and then hopefully save the money of the analysis after that.

Reponses are appreciated.

I get my oil analyzed by Oil Analyzers Inc. , (they are on the home page of Amsoil.com. ) The front bumper is by Tough Country Products, manufactured by Mark's Machines, El Campo, Tx. I test my oil every 12,000 miles, (past experience tells me that is often enough) my oil cost me less than what you used, (2 1/2 gal size) I do all my own labor so that cost is not there. More than anything, I just don't have to worry about going over on mileage on my oil change. If you all but live in a truck like I do, you can feel if something isn't right. I don't want to have to worry about anything on the road except the fools around me, believe me, there is more than enough of them to go around.

amsoil

no need to change the oil at 50K-from all the info i have seen-why dump it if test say it ok??i will run it until testing proves otherwise-jmo;)

I have installed the Amsoil products in many, many CTD trucks as well as other types of vehicles. Some of the people claim they get mileage ancreases, (as much as 4 MPG) and some say they do not notice any increase at all. However, most will say the vehicle simply run better!

My 89' Dodge shadow ES "turbo" is a very good example of better running as well as fuel mileage increase. It now has 175,000 miles, and still gets 21 MPG in town driving, and has NEVER failed an emission test! Oil is changed once a year! Have owned the car since new, and boost still gets up to 10 PSI.

Last few years have only put around 12,000/year, but first years was the only car we had.

We have a 1985 Chevy caprice classic. 305 4bbl,2. 89 rear axle 700r4 turbo auto. Bought car years ago with 82k. Engine somewhat dirty inside. Used a qt of oil every 1300 miles. Got 17/18 mpg. Swapped to Castrol syntec 10w30 fuel mileage stayed the same. qt. of oil every 1800 miles. Year later changed to Amsoil products from trans/diff. wheel bearing grease 10w30 oil. Now at 196,000 and oil changes every 20k to 25k with filters every 7500. Trans flush every 60k with only one trans filter change. Rear diff. every 60k etc. Engine is cleaner then at 82k it gets driven Monday thru Friday at 100 miles a day and uses ONE qt of oil every 3100 miles. GETS 21/22 mpg every tank at 70mph. Trans still shifts great and smoother then with Delco trans fluid. Pcv stays cleaner etc. Also run the A word in a NEW HOLLAND tractor with a front loader. The wet clutch, brakes and loader work smoother in all temps then it ever did with factory New Holland hyd. oil. Also use the A word 15w40 H. D. in the engine etc. Order product and UPS drops it on my door in a few days. Like their spay grease in a can also for rotating balls in lift linkage etc. ;)

draymorris,

Who changes their oil every 3k miles? I change mine every 7500. When I reach 30k I'll probably start changing at 10,000 mile intervals. The book calls for 7500 severe use and 15k light use. Rotella and Delo are about $6. 50 a gallon here. I get my filters from Geno's.

FWIW, I can wash mine and it runs better, rides smoother and gets better mileage. :D

Draymorris, I always ran 20,000 miles with Amsoil between oil changes. This was using a stock filter (stratapore) and no bypass. I changed the filter twice between oil changes which is about 7000 miles per filter. Oil samples after 20,000 miles always came back awesome. The highest iron count was 88, usually between 40-50 after 20K. I had DD2 unjectors and a box part of the time yet soot levels stayed low (under 1%). TBN, oxidation and viscosity were always well within range. I wish I still had my records but they went with my truck to the new owner. With sampling 20,000 miles is no sweat.

Those running very BOMBed or get on it hard should change oil more often due to stress and sooting of the oil. Otherwise 3000 mile oil changes are overkill. I usually go 6-8000 on Dino.

Milage By Amsoil

:D Before I changed all of my fluids over to amsoil I was getting 19. 5 to 19. 9 per gal for a tank full. Immediately after changing all of my fluids over my mileage went to 21. 5 per gal per tank. I now have 10,328 on my rig & am getting 23. 7 to 23. 9 per gal per tank. I also use their fuel conditioner & centain additive 6oz. ea. per tank. with a complete bypass system. Is it worth it??????? My answer is an unequivocal YES... ..... :D :D :D Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo.

Milage by Amsoil

Oh yea I live in the mountains of northern New Hampshire. When I have been driving in the flat lands my mileage has been between 25. 8 & 26. 4 mpg per tank full. Now that would really make it worth it. Believe it or not... I have the records to document it.

Thanks to everyone for replying. Ya'll gave me the info I needed to decide what approach I am going use, to try to save money (and wear).

Any info on Hot-Shotting would be helpful - with economy the way it is I may be looking for another job soon and was considering trying driving for a while. You can PM or direct e-mail -- email address removed --.

Thanks again everyone.

Amsoil and MPG

I was using Amsoil in my 2001 and got around 21MPG after breakin but now with my 2003 and Royal Purple I am getting 23-24 MPG from 17 previous but I had to wait till I had 10k miles on my truck to change to RP. Just think of how much better the milage would be if I had only not made the RP mistake and used AMSOIL! May GOD forgive me. :--)
