6 when I took it for a test drive. 8 on delivery. Not a special order, but I spoke for it informally a few months before it came in and had the salesman call me when the auto transport arrived. :)

Yes I am anal about a $40,000 plus NEW truck that was driven from a dealer 175 miles away and had 320 miles on it. I was led to believe that the truck was at a local dealer(not in writing, just given that impression). Dont know what the driver did or how he used/misused a brand new truck. I expect that the first 500 mile recommendations were not followed to the letter, probably in a hurry and maybe just wanted to see what the new truck would do. Dont know, but it was just irritating. The sales person did not check the options list on the truck they delivered as compared to the one I test drove and wanted except for color. They also had to steal a rear Fold-Floor storage out of a truck on the lot and install. Plus the rear window was not the same. I have used this dealer before and probably will again if I need a Dodge, but customer service comes down to the individual and some do a much better job than others.

I work at a Dodge dealer, and can tell you we sell them with between 1 and thousands of miles.

Never assume they will flatbed a DX'd truck, it's common practice to drive it, since alot of the time we trade trucks.

Get a damn trailer if you're doing it all the time then. Not like you don't have plenty of 1 ton diesel trucks to pull with. That is really unprofessional and lazy of you to be driving new, untitled vehicles and putting miles on them. I can't believe your management allows some crap like that.

I don't care if I'd waited 3 months for my ordered truck. If it had that many miles on it, I'd walk. I ordered a NEW truck, not a half used truck.

Some of you guys are quite anal, pretty much the reason I got out of sales, because some people are ridiculous about minor things. If you want something with just a couple miles, then factory order it and tell them you don't want them to drive it as part of the PDI process.

And we have the right to be anal. You're the one getting a sale that equals half my year's salary. You're damn right I'm going to be anal.

142

142, but about 18 was my test drive, maybe 4 for them to get the hitch installed and it had been the 'second half' of a dealer swap from a dealer about 105 miles away, so that leaves about 15 miles of miscellaneous including other's test drives prior to mine. Not a problem... . and they DID fill it with fuel at delivery.

The Saturday I test drove odometer read 7 miles at start up. Afterwards was somewhere around 18 or 19, I don't remember on return test drive. I picked up truck following Monday evening, title showed 21 and I remember seeing 21 on the odometer when me, and inspector was doing a final inspection. I questioned them about only having a 1/8 of a tank of fuel "hey aren't ya'll going to fill it up with fuel". They said Dodge only would credit them with $15. 00 bucks of fuel (back when fuel was cheap "remember"). So the inspector instructed the saleman to go put in $15. 00 of diesel. Anyone else verify this, I probably got chumped on the fuel :-laf . He said now if you bought a Ford from us you would get a full tank of fuel (Dodge/Ford dealership). Anyway had 25 miles on it after all said and done leaving the dealership.

What he said, and JVolpe too.

We have every right to be anal about these $40k trucks. DC sure is anal about extending warranty coverage, so why shouldn't I be about who puts miles on my truck? Now I will be the first to say that I didn't pay $40k for my truck, as I got a really good deal. But that doesn't mean it could come with any mileage the dealer deems is appropriate to put on the truck. I actually could deal with the mileage issue easier if I was told about it before I bought a one-way plane ticket to go pick my truck up. But as it were, my options were to stay in a hotel and buy a return ticket back home with no truck to show for it($$$); or buy another truck with no miles and not get the same options I wanted; or eat this truck. I was also told it was common practice to drive swapped vehicles. After arriving at the dealership is too late to be informed of the mileage, especially when the first time you learn of it is when you turn the key for the first time. What!!?? 495 miles???? :{ I feel the dealer should notify the buyer in these types of sales. Lou Fusz does a lot of internet business, and I hope it has become policy to notify the buyer BEFORE they travel from other parts of the country to pick up their truck. I didn't ask about this, as maybe I should have, but you can bet I will next time. And the next truck won't be delivered to me with lots of miles or I'll take my business elsewhere... good deal or not!

You seem to have a reading comprehension issue. If your truck is ordered, it will have minimal miles. EVERY DC dealer does this, so I guess my "management" is the Germans.

Don't take a salesman's word for anything, get it all in writing.

My post was meant to offer insight, and maybe be helpful. I didn't post it in the hopes of raising your blood pressure.

This thread blows my mind...

As a dealer, we have to test drive them 3-4 miles on what is called a "PDI" = Pre-delivery inspection. And if it sits on the lot, it may get driven alot if it is new model - So it may have like 75-100 miles after a couple of people take it for drives etc

And yes, a new order will only have 10 or less miles UNLESS the factory choose to quality test YOUR truck, then it will have a little sticker that states that, and it will have around 40-50 miles - WE CANNOT control that, thats why the sticker is there... To prove it was not the dealer

Secondly, if you guys dont think the factory worker (or delivey company) runs the crap out of a few trucks when they pulled off the assembly line, you are mistaken!

Trust me, as a son of past DC plant worker... your truck has seen high speeds (on rollers at the end of the assembly line) WAY before you get it...

Just a fact of life - No harm done

Get A Life

:{ First off IF YOU ORDER IT WON'T HAVE ANY MORE THEN 20 MILES ON IT! It has to be driven off the line on to a truck, then driven on to the rail car, then back on the truck, then back off the truck at the dealer, then test drove so you don’t whine about that noise under the truck. Then if it is a spec or dealer ordered truck any test drives that poetical buys do. So ONCH MORE IF YOU DON’T WANT ANY MILES ON IT ORDER IT AND WAIT 6 TO 12 WEEKS AND CRY ABOUT THAT! :{ God you people are so damm funny!

Well, the salesman at Dave Smith (Kellogg Id) said mine has 28 miles So I guess I am lucky its not 280. Most of us bad mouth some dealers and a lot of Salesmen, So I guess it's fair play to have a salesman bad mouth most of us. I also would imagine that Most on this site let alone the thousands that read this site but can't post ARE ALL a bit ANAL. Otherwise we would all just buy the first truck we came across be it a Toy or Ford. Personally I normally research for over a year before I commit to a New truck, and I keep it a long time as its just the way I want. So I can be called Anal as I want to know how my truck was broke-in. We are talking about a few bucks here. I live in a small town usually after I buy about 5 friends and neighbors get just about the same truck as me, as they know I usually get a good fair deal. I would have gone back to my previous dealer But in 84 Ford 6. 9 (Int'l) was the Diesel to buy. Now it's Dodge because of the Cummins. I find the new trend at dealerships is they have very young and inexperience greeters (warm bodies) who gather in front of dealership that descend on a new prospective customer Once a customer is ready to buy a more seasoned salesman takes this new catch and try to close the deal. I imagine the young sales person gets a pittance if they are lucky as most only stick around a month or two. I make it a practice to always ask for the Fleet Manager.

I too am not wanting to cause anyone any high blood pressure.

The phrase "Don't take a salesman's word for anything, get it all in writing," kind of sums this all up.

Tomeygun, I started this Thread, so I and others would know what to expect as NORMAL mileage on a NEW truck and your post and many others have done that. Thank you again

My truck had 9 miles on it when I took delivery of it. I special ordered it. The window sticker, which was never on the window, said, "This vehical especially built for (my name). I also told the dealer not to put the dealers name on my tailgate because as far as I am concerned it is free advertizing for the dealer. Grizzly

Mine had..

Mine had 177 miles on it including my test drive of maybe 10 or 11 miles. I would guess (although I can't confirm) it was from test drives. I had my choice of 2 trucks on the lot for the deal I was getting and the other one had 88 miles. I choose the one I did because I test drove it and it seemed fine.

I did get a full tank of fuel. While they were writing up the offer, I politely but firmly said "You ARE gonna fill it up with fuel RIGHT?". Of course the salesman said "well, we don't normally do that but I will for you". YAH, RIGHT! Hehehehe.

Shawn

3 miles

I almost wished at the time it had around 20,000 so it would be somewhat broke in. Yea right:rolleyes:

Hey my Margarita just hit 2nd gear!:-laf

Mine had 9 miles when I left on the test drive 19 when I returned, 21 at delivery. I got a full tank of fuel without asking (must have been the other 2 miles).

It is understandable how more than a few miles would be irritating, especially not knowing how the truck was driven. However the dealer should be able to at least tell you if those miles are from test drives, etc... and then a person could at least make an informed decision as to whether they still wanted that vehicle.

I don't mean to flame anyone here, but why are we concerned about a few miles on a truck that can last 500,000 miles or more. How badly can someone beat it up on a test drive in town? I would expect that a special order truck not be used for test drives though.

WTF is this about?

6 miles and it was still wrapped in plastic when I went in the back to see what colors were available with the package I wanted.

Good point...

On the other hand, BE VERY CAUTIOUS ABOUT A SRT-4 WITH 200 MILES ON IT... :-laf :-laf :-laf -- Some times i will take a guy on a test drive in one of those little pocket rockets, and before you know it he's on the rev-limiter... Of course he didn't buy it, go figure

I no longer let people drive the SRT-4's... ...
